SummaryEnjoyable.
Content
Liza struts her stuff in this watchable 'action' movie. A police detective is accused of masterminding a chain of killings. Liza is the damsel in distress and Burt Reynolds is the good cop. Funny 80's wardrobe & soundtrack. Watch out for Dionne Warwick as Beth...

SummaryLiza dodging bullets!!!
Content
When I realized this was an action movie I said to myself "I have to see this" Liza Minelli as Della Roberts dodging bullets and taking a stabbing (not to mention shooting a gun) was something else, WAY different from other roles. I wasn't really happy with Burt Reynolds performance as Tony Church but we can't win them all. Overall Minelli's performance was just spectacular, (I was a bit surprised hearing her swear) she is truly an actress.

SummaryThis Movie's OK,and Liza was fantastic
Content
"Rent a Cop"isn't a bad film, and Liza was great.Burt Reynolds does seem tired in the movie. This is when he was having all his health problems. In away, this film is like "The Body Guard." They should have made Liza a famous singer, and have Burt as the Body Guard, and Liza's Sister, Lorna Luft, as the one trying to get rid of Liza.Lorna wouldn't even have to act.Just read her Book about Liza.

SummaryAmusing trifle with a very playful Liza

I'm glad this is resurfacing. "Rent A Cop" is the movie LizaMinnelli most regrets making (she sez), but she has nothing to atonefor: this is a rollicking, vivacious star turn, by far the best thing in the picture. Burt has his moments but seems fatigued at times, and Dionne Warwick is simply bad (although she looks fab). Robby Benson has a few funny scenes. Jerry Goldsmith's terrific score is out of print ....

Many people remember this movie as the one that garned Liza a Worst Actress Razzie award in 1989 (shared with "Arthur 2"), but no one seems to remember that she actually received rave reviews from Variety and the New York Times for this performance. The Razzies like high-profile marks, it seems. Look for Bette Midler and Madonna to duke it out for that award next year (for "Isn't She Great" and "The Next Best Thing", respectively). Haven't seen Madonna's flick, but in Bette's case, the honor(?) would be well deserved.

Anyway, if you're a Liza buff and you've never seen "Rent A Cop", give it a whirl. She gets all the best lines, looks great (if a tad heavy) and breathes a lotta life into a formula action flick.
