SummaryLets get a third effort in this fun franchise :)
Content
Contrary it appears to public opinion (if box office receipts are anything to go by) I actually preferred this sequel to the original SCOOBY DOO.
Gone is the ridiculous unmasking of the improbable villain (though this one is pure fantasy too) and we actually seem to have a plot here with actual clues to uncover. Whereas the first one seemed to play like some wacked out amusement park ride, this one plays it all a little straighter without losing its Scooby sense of zany humor.
The movie opens as a museum exhibit is being unveiled covering the history of Mystery Inc. Things get steadily worse however as one of the disguises comes dramatically to life Soon the team are being chased by all manner of monsters as well as a rather vindictive television reporter (played by 1990s sex symbol Alicia Silverstone).
There are some real red herrings in the convoluted plot of this movie, but there is actually a coherant follow the clues structure to this movie that was sadly missing from the team's freshman live-action version.
Yes, this movie is far from high art, but its colorful and fun...
Please give us a SCOOBY DOO 3 as this franchise just seems to get better and better.

I was never a huge fan of Scobby Doo but I did manage to see two of the films. As usual I was pretty bored by both films. Something interesting though is that Freddie Prinze Jr. & Matthew Lillard both appear in She's All That, a big favorite of mine while Matthew plays such an annoying person in that movie it's alot funnier and more reccomended. I don't like the cartoons but I still think the cartoons are better. Don't except anything like the cartoon no matter how true it stays. Live action movies aren't always such a great move.

SummaryDecent movie...
Content
I have to warn you, I was a huge Scooby Doo fan as a child. But I really hated the first Scooby Doo movie. I mean, Scrappy Doo is the villain and there were real monsters? And all those fart jokes as well as Rowan "Mr. Bean" Atkinson was really annoying too. This was definitely not the Scooby Doo I remembered. So, I skipped Doo 2 when it hit the cinemas and finally watched it on HBO.

I had really low expectations for Scooby Doo 2, but guess what..it's not as bad as I thought it would be. This time around, the story is truer to the orginal Scooby Doo cartoon series and that's what probably saved this turkey. Mystery Inc. is doing very well and they are opening an exhibition of ghost costumes from every mystery they solved. Of course, someone comes along (looks like a cross between Sauron and a knight) and creates havoc. He steals the costumes and plans to make those costumes come to life, thus the "Monsters Unleashed" in the movie title. There are a number of assorted characters, from a devious reporter to a former villain and even the museum curator. Who's the mastermind? The villain will be unmasked at the end of the movie, just like in the cartoons and it's a pretty fun ride reaching there.

The story is nothing to shout about. I knew who the villain was about 15 minutes into the show, but then again this is Scooby Doo...not some Alfred Hitchcock story. So, what it should bank on is it's humour and entertainment value, and thank goodness they did a better job here than with Scooby Doo 1. As the movie progressed, I remembered the time when I was young and loved the cartoon, and that's a good sign. In fact, the whole movie had a very cartoon-y feeling to it. The gang were decent enough. I'm always amazed to see Matthew Lillard as Shaggy, he has such an uncanny resemblence to Shaggy, it's amazing...his voice, his look...everything! Most people have problems with Fred and Daphne, I personally had no problems with them...I guess people just see Freddie Prinze Jr and Sarah Michelle Gellar instead of their characters because they're such big stars. But they were never the main attraction in Scooby Doo, so it's alright. The supporting cast seemed to be having a good time as well. A small note, very impressive work from the CG department. This was one of the reasons the movie didn't suck. It was implemented really well.

In short, I won't say that Scooby Doo 2 was hilarious or superb, but I did smile here and there as the movie went along and it did bring some memories to me. I liked the "feel" of the movie, with it's eerie mansions, secret passages, masked villains with some evil sub-plot...all of which I feel, is what Scooby Doo stands for. If you never watched Scooby Doo when you were young, you would probably not enjoy this flick. But if you did, this movie is pretty damn fun.

Scooby-Doo 2 in my opinion was a very well written movie and also was directed very well but, the acting and the special effects were OK. The movie did have some positive parts to it, some of the actors were good for the characters they were playing, Matthew Lillard (Shaggy) and Linda Cardellini (Velma) were in my opinion perfect for the characters they were playing. Unlike Freddie Prinze Jr. and Sarah Michelle Gellar which in my opinion were not good for Fred and Daphne but Freddie did have the name and hair going for him but that was it and Sarah had Daphne's girly look to her but that was it for her. The other positive aspects of this movie were, it was a very surprisingly funny show the humor though was used in a lot of dumb ways there is some rude humor in probably a couple parts but its not horrible crude humor it's just a little different. There is one more good aspect of this movie and that is the ending, the ending was a good one to an alright movie. Even though it had positive aspects it did have some negative ones to. The actors find the clues too easily and Daphne was never a strong woman who fought in the cartoon series she was always worried about her hair and make-up and Sarah didn't do that at all in this movie she used her make-up but never worried about it. The other poor aspects are, it was Slow and boring in some spots of the movie it also had a lot of CGI in it, but that wasn't that bad.

Overall this is a great family movie but only if you're a fan of the cartoon series and the first Scooby-Doo movie.

I absolutly love Scooby Doo,but what suprise! There is so much more animation. This movie is also based more on Scooby Doo(who is the main charcter)and Shagy. In this film it is alot less reminding of along time ago,and more focsused on the mystery. This is the one complant I have for Scooby Doo too,It's not funny it is veary siorsus, not as serious as i'm making it sound, but serious enough that, its just not Scooby Doo!If you really look at it Scooby Doo is considered comedy, this is NOT a comedy from my point of view. These are the reasons I give Scooby Doo Too a review as a four.
