Career:
Entering the entertainment industry at age 17 by doing commercials, Leslie Mann
made her big screen debut with a tiny part in Richard Gabai's teen comedy movie
Virgin High (1991), alongside Burt Ward, Linnea Quigley and Tracy Dali. Three
years later, she became a regular on the brief-running ABC medical drama, "Birdland,"
with Diana Bellamy and Scott Michael Campbell.
Leslie was then cast in writer-director Isabel Coixet's independent romantic
comedy Cosas que nunca te dije (1996; a.k.a. Things I Never Told You), starring
Lili Taylor and Andrew McCarthy. That same year, she beat out 500 other
actresses in an open audition for the role of Robin Harris, the girlfriend of
Matthew Broderick's character, in the Ben Stiller-directed dark comedy film, The
Cable Guy, starring Jim Carrey.
Moviegoers subsequently saw Leslie starring as Ursula Stanhope, the lovely
American heiress smitten by Brendan Fraser’s George of the Jungle (1997) in
director Sam Weisman's live-action film based on the original cartoon series of
the same name. She later portrayed a waitress named Corinne in Dennis Dugan's
hit comedy movie starring Adam Sandler, Big Daddy (1999).
Entering the new millennium, Leslie appeared in Michael Rymer and Hunter
Carson's drama/comedy film set in the world of fashion, Perfume (2001),
alongside Paul Sorvino, Jeff Goldblum and Carmen Electra. She then starred
opposite Jason Lee, playing his longtime girlfriend Elaine, in Bruce McCulloch's
crime comedy Stealing Harvard (2002; also starring Tom Green), and was cast in
husband Judd Apatow's directorial debut, The 40 Year-Old Virgin, a romantic
comedy starring Steve Carell.
Leslie has completed Knocked Up, a comedy film written and directed by her
husband, in which she plays Katherine Heigl's sister named Debbie. The film,
which also stars Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd and Jason Segel, is set to be released on
June 1, 2007. Currently, Leslie is filming Steven Brill's upcoming comedy film
starring Owen Wilson, Drillbit Taylor, which is scheduled for a summer 2007
release.
