 | Rattle and Hum is a fantastic musical expirience of one of the greatest band of all time touring through America in 1987. It black and white gainy pictture sets an enchnting mood, Bono is his amazing self, and band is just electric. The music is great, the performances were mind blowing, and the extras were a treat. I would strongy reccomend picking this one up, as you will not be disappointed. |

 | I've been into U2 since I was a punk rock DJ in the 80s, but it wasn't until Unforgettable Fire that my addiction became pathological. I saw them live in Oakland CA and left there pleased but not terrible impressed about their musical skills. They seemed as sloppy live as many rock icons are out of the studio.
But this DVD rights that wrong. I just purchased it in 2005 and found out a few things about U2 that I never knew:
The band is tighter than I thought. I used to think that Adam and Larry were just backing up the stars, but it's apparent from this DVD that they are both hard-working serious musical lads.
Edge is a better guitar player that I thought he was. He might not be mister solo, but he drives the band ala Pete Townsend and never seems to run out of rythym.
Bono is just as overbearing and postured as I had thought. But by God the ensemble works, and I can't fault him or the band for the results.
I recommend that you buy this DVD and add it to your collection. You might find yourself playing it more than you expected. It has excellent moments. |

 | Most of the Amazon reviews of this movie are glowing to say the least. However, the critical consensus seems to be that it is overblown, pretentious and a little embarrassing.
My opinion falls somewhere in the middle. I saw Rattle and Hum when it came out and bought the soundtrack vinyl on the day it was released. I loved the movie at the time but I was also completely enchanted with the band back then, this was their follow up to Joshua Tree.
Looking at it now, the whole Bono discovers the American Heartland thing is a bit much but who cares? This is a great band in their prime and they can be excused a little ego inflation.

 | My advice is unless you cannot avoid it, order through Amazon.com not Amazon.ca. I have made various orders through both shops. Amazon.com is ALWAYS much faster to ship the product that Amazon.ca. I find it quite annoying that there is no way for me to send an email and complain. This is the best I can do. |
