Mr. Britney Spears
Background:
Former back-up dancer Kevin Federline is widely recognized as the husband of pop
sensation Britney Spears. Along with his superstar wife, Federline costarred and
executive produced the reality TV show “Britney and Kevin: Chaotic” (2005). He
later branched out into music and will soon release his first studio album
called Playing With Fire. 6' tall Keith is currently the face of the Five Star
Vintage line by the San Francisco-based Blue Marlin clothing company.
Since his marriage to pop star Britney Spears, Federline has been the subject of
ridicule on television and on the Internet. He previously was involved with
actress Shar Jackson (b. September 4, 1976) and has two children with her. He
has one son with Britney Spears and they are expecting another baby, due in
September of 2006.
K-Fed
Childhood and Family:
On March 21, 1978, Kevin Earl Federline was born in Fresno County, California.
Federline, who later earned the nickname K-Fed, has two brothers: Chris and
Curtis.
In 2000, Federline met pop star Britney Spears (b. December 2, 1981) on a tour,
while some sources claimed that they met at a Hollywood club called Joseph's in
April 2004. On their first meeting, Britney Spears recalled: “We stayed with
each other for a week. I was supposed to get on a plane to go on tour. I told my
mom I didn't want to go on tour. I was like, ‘I want to stay in L.A.’ At the
time, I didn't think he'd come with me because we'd just met. Then I was
supposed to get on a plane. Then I canceled my flight. I turned the car around,
called Kevin and said, ‘Where are you at?’ The next week I was like, ‘Kevin, get
your passport and come out with me.’”
Federline was invited by Spears to attend the European leg of her The Onyx Hotel
Tour. On the plane ride back to New York, from Ireland, Spears proposed to him.
Federline revealed: "It wasn't like a ‘Will you marry me?’ It wasn't that
straightforward. The way she said it was kind of beating around the bush. Still,
I was taken by surprise. I thought the guy was supposed to ask the girl. So a
couple of minutes went by and then I asked her."
The couple became engaged on June 25, 2004. And only two months after
Federline’s son was born to Shar Jackson, the pair tied the knot on September
18, 2004, in a surprise ceremony at a private home in Studio City, California,
before 20-30 guests. Federline and Spears have one son together, Sean Preston
Federline, who was born on September 14, 2005, via Caesarian section. Not long
after the birth of their son, Spears announced in May 2006 that they were
expecting their second child, due in September.
Federline also has children from his relationship with actress Shar Jackson:
daughter Kori (b. July 31, 2002) and son Kaleb (b. July 29, 2004).
Playing With Fire
Career:
Kevin Federline was a back-up dancer for Britney Spears’ then-boyfriend Justin
Timberlake. He also danced for the band LFO, who performed as an opening act for
Britney Spears.
In 2004, Federline danced in writer-director Chris Stokes' musical comedy movie
You Got Served, starring Omarion Grandberry and Marques Houston. The next year,
following his marriage to Britney Spears, Federline and Spears costarred and
executive produced their 2005 reality television show, “Britney and Kevin:
Chaotic.” The limited-run series featured home-made videos created by Spears and
Federline during their courtship, engagement and wedding. The show, which
included Spears bragging about her lengthy love-making sessions and begging
future husband Federline for sex, was aired on the US network UPN to dismal
ratings and even worse reviews. “Britney and Kevin: Chaotic” reruns later
appeared on MTV and VH1, and its DVD version was released on September 27, 2005.
More recently, Federline and Spears were rumored to be appearing in a second
series of “Britney and Kevin: Chaotic.” The couple, who apparently is tired of
the constant speculation surrounding the couple's private life, reportedly
wanted to film a second series to put all rumors to rest. But Spears’ publicist
later denied the reports, saying: "Britney is not doing a second season of
Chaotic. It's not true."
Federline then followed the path of his wife, becoming a musician. His
representative confirmed that Federline’s debut studio album, Playing With Fire
(originally almost titled "Rearranged," "Off The Record" or the "The Truth") is
scheduled to be released in mid-August of 2006. But in November of 2005, a
minute-long clip from the song "Y'all Ain't Ready," in which Federline refers to
the paparazzi that trail him and Spears as "Pavarottis," was spread on the
Internet and received ridicule.
On New Year's Day, 2006, Federline released his first single, "PopoZão." The
track, a mix of American hip-hop and Brazilian funk, was loosely inspired by a
Brazilian dance track called "Funk do Popozão." Federline later insisted that
the debut single was a joke, which he did intentionally to make people accept
his real stuff.
"At first, when I put out “PopoZão,” people were kinda laughing at me. I did it
on purpose so people would look at me exactly the way they did. That way, when I
come out with my real s**t, people are f**king blown away." Kevin Federline
Federline then released a track titled "America's Most Hated" on his official
social MySpace page in the spring of 2006. The track caused a stir when it was
discovered that Federline had used a sample from Thomas Dolby. It had also
previously been legally used by Mobb Deep.
Additionally, Federline has released a clip for his new song called "Snap." In
March of 2006, Federline confirmed that he will perform a promotional club tour
in major cities such as New York City and Los Angeles to observe fans' reactions
toward his tracks played by a DJ.
Now Federline is branching out into modeling. He has signed on to represent the
Five Star Vintage line by the San Francisco-based Blue Marlin clothing company
and will appear in an initial series of ads slated to begin running in magazines
in September 2006. The company representative believes that Federline will draw
in their target age group of ages 16 to 28.
Being asked if Federline's role with the company was permanent, the company’s
rep said: "We have to see how this first ad campaign goes."
In June of 2006, Federline joined Americans for Common Cents and Virgin Mobile
in New York to campaign for pennies. He became a penny activist when he received
a text message from Virgin Mobile.
