Career:

Kenny Doughty made his screen debut as the friend of Labina Mitevska on director Michael Winterbottom's “I Want You,” which shown on the Berlin International Film Festival on February 18, 1998. The crime/drama starred Rachel Weisz, Alessandro Nivola and Luka Petrusic. He segued to television later that same year with his significant role as a young trainspotter named Gus Gascoigne on the drama “Anorak of Fire.” He went on to have guest spots in such series as “Heartbeat” and “ Dinnerladies” (both 1998).

It was also in 1998 that Doughty was introduced into mainstream audience when he won the role of Sir Thomas Elyot on the Academy Award winner “Elizabeth.” Directed by Shekhar Kapur, the period drama starred the Oscar nominee Cate Blanchett as Queen Elizabeth the First and Geoffrey Rush as her helper, Sir Francis Walsingham. The film opened the actor's doors to Hollywood.

A year later, Doughty made his American debut as the young Patrick Stewart on the Emmy-nominated adaptation of “A Christmas Carol” (1999), directed by David Hugh Jones. The same year, he also portrayed Quintus on the Julie Taymor-directed epic “Titus” (released in the U.S. cinema in February 2000), starring Anthony Hopkins on the title character. Adapted from the Shakespeare play “Titus Andronicus,” the film was nominated for an Oscar for Best Costume Design.

Entering the new millennium, Doughty could be seen playing the supporting role of Denis in the indie romance “All Forgotten” (2000), opposite Kirsten Dunst and Julie Walters, before returning to the British cinema with “Crush” (2001), where he costarred along side Andie MacDowell, Imelda Staunton and Anna Chancellor. He played the pivotal role of Jed Willis. After “Crush,” Doughty worked extensively on the small screen, including playing Para 027 on the drama “Sunday” (2002), Jamie Gilliam on the drama/thriller “Gifted” (2003), opposite wife Caroline Carver, as well as William Forrest on the British drama series “Servants” (2003), and did not revisit the silver screen until 2004 when he starred with Rachael Leigh Cook on the romantic comedy “My First Wedding” (2004), in which his wife also had a role as his sister. Doughty again worked with his wife in the film “The Aryan Couple” (2004), this time they were playing a married couple Hans and Ingrid Vassman. The drama/war film also starred Martin Landau and Judy Parfitt.

Next up for Doughty, he was tapped to play Pitt on the John Dahl action/drama “The Great Raid” (2005), which starred Benjamin Bratt, James Franco, Robert Mammone, James Carpinello and Mark Consuelos. The actor followed it up with a part as Liam Woolf on the BBC short-lived series “Funland” (2005). In 2006, he offered a memorable supporting turn as Joe Orton on the TV film “Kenneth Williams: Fantabulosa!,” a comedy-drama about the life and times of punished comic Kenneth Williams, and played the regular role of Coll in the soon-canceled series “Goldplated.”

Recently, Doughty starred as Jake on the BBC TV-film “Empress's New Clothes” (2008), along side Denise Van Outen and Liz White, and has completed filming the Hong Kong thriller “Irreversi,” which will be released in the U.S in 2008. Directed by Michael Gleissner, the film also stars Mei Melançon, Ian Bohen and Estella Warren.
