Tea Shop Waitress
Childhood and Family:
On November 23, 1979, Kelly Ann Parsons, who would later be famous as Kelly Brook, was born in Rochester, Kent, England. Her parents are Sandra (cook) and Ken (scaffolder). Kelly has a younger brother named Damian, and is an older half-sister to Sasha. A Rochester native, Kelly attended Thomas Aveling School before being accepted in the prestigious Italia Conte stage school. Because her parents didn’t have enough money to pay the high fees, Kelly applied for a scholarship, but sadly, her application was rejected. She began modeling and took a job at a local tea shop as a waitress to earn extra money.
A former student of the celebrated Italia Conte stage school, Kelly Brook began modeling professionally at age 16 after her mother enrolled her in a beauty competition, where she became the winner. After a series of small modeling gigs, including one for flooring company KMS, Brook’s face was discovered on the cover of numerous magazines like Sky, GQ, FHM, Cosmopolitan, Tatler, The Face, and Company.
However, it was her modeling job with a mail order lingerie company named Bravissimo, which specializes in selling bras of large cup sizes, which delivered Brook her first media break. With measurements of 32E-24-35, the model was well suited for the ads and caught the attention of the editorial team of the UK national tabloid newspaper The Daily Star, who started publishing images of her. She also became known and was regularly featured in such men magazines as FHM and Maxim.
Brook’s career was further established in the following years with more modeling contracts. Landing her first starring role in the advertising campaign for Lee Jeans (1995), she has since modeled for Renault Megane, Walkers and Piz Buin print ads. She also appeared in a TV commercial for Sure deodorant, where she played the game show host “Nicky with the Ticky,” with Jonathan Ross.
Already well-liked as a model in her native Britain, Brook tried her hand in TV presenting and by 1997, she had landed gigs with MTV, Granada and Trouble TV. Her huge break in the field arrived in early 1999 when she was recruited to replace Denise van Outen as one of the female presenters of Channel 4’s morning show, ”The Big Breakfast,” with Johnny Vaughan. Despite earning popularity, she decided to resign from the show after only six months, leaving speculations Brook was fired because she was too inexperienced for the role. However, her partner Vaughan denied the rumor and damned the attacks as imprecise and nasty.
After the departure, Brook spent time with her boyfriend while searching for a job. As a model, she was put in the mainstream again when she was recruited as an international spokesmodel for the Triumph Flaunt underwear and bra line. Her picture was featured on a billboard in London, which went on record for being the largest advertising billboard in England. As for a presenter, she was busy with her work for MTV Select on MTV UK, MTV Asia and MTV Ireland, as well as for No Worries (as co-host) and made appearances on Short Change and Fist of Fun. Additionally, the attractive presenter hosted the Oasis Live at the Wembley concert on Sky One.
Entering the new millennium, Brook branched out into acting and made her feature film debut with the thriller Sorted (2000), starring Matthew Rhys, Sienna Guillory and Jason Donovan. She also guest starred in an episode of “Mojo” and was spotted on stage at the Riverside Studios in London as a stripper in a production of “Eye Contact.” She first came to the attention of the American audience as the star of the made-for-TV film The (Mis) adventures of Fiona Plum (2000).
The next year saw Brook launch her first official calendar, featuring all of her, 12 months a year. The same year, she added to her movie resume a minor role in John Eyres’ horror Ripper: Letter from Hell, in which she played Marisa Tavares. She followed it up by joining the cast of the Warner Brothers series “Smallville” (2002), where she turned heads with her four-episode performance as Victoria Hardwick, the shameful girlfriend of Clark Kent/Superman’s Lex Luthor. Next up for Brook, she found herself acting opposite Christopher Lambert and Lou Diamond Phillips in the independent movie Absolon (2003), had a tiny role as Lyle’s girlfriend in the action film The Italian Job (2003, starring Mark Wahlberg, Charlize Theron and Donald Sutherland) and took her first lead in the comedy/romance School for Seduction (2004). In 2005, FHM’s 5th “Sexiest Brit Girl” (2000) costarred with Dennis Hopper in the thriller House of 9, as well as made an appearance as a beautiful woman in a painting in the Rob Schneider comedy vehicle Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo. On the small screen, she played the supporting role of Linda Fashiobella in the TV comedy Romy and Michele: In the Beginning (2005) and made her return to the world of presenting by undertaking a role in the national TV “Celebrity Love Island” (2005), with Irish comedian Patrick Kielty. Her hosting talents, however, were once again slated by TV critics.
Recently, Brook took part in the ITV film Marple: The Moving Finger (2006) alongside Geraldine McEwan and starred as Jennifer in the thriller Three (2006), for writer/director Stewart Raffill. The latter film, where she shared the screen with fiancé Billy Zane, created some minor controversy when the couple asked Brook’s nude scene be erased from the final cut. The producers rejected their request. In April 2006, inspired by Hollywood stars from the Fifties, the beautiful model released “Kelly Brook Swimwear.”
