SummaryShame on the studio for not releasing this!
Content
How could this film have sat on a shelf and then ended up a straight to DVD release!?! With the director of Muriel's Wedding and My Best Friend's Wedding at the helm, were they expecting something ordinary? While perhaps not up to the previous two films, it does have the factors which made them hits: unpredictable quirkiness, great comic performances, underdogs coming out on top, and imaginative use of music. Unfortunately, It didn't get a chance to be seen by film critics. Luckily, many Amazon reviewers have raved about this film and I'm glad to add my voice to theirs. Hopefully the word will get out. (And any film that gives gorgeous and funny and sexy and talented and openly gay film star Rupert Everett to play a leading role is A-okay in my book.)

SummaryDon't miss this one - it's great!
Content
This is really a great movie! It's part comedy, part drama and murder mystery, with some good music thrown in.

The excellent script has some very touching moments. A perfect cast includes Kathy Bates, Rupert Everett, Dan Ackroyd and Jonathan Pryce.

There are even some surprise real-life celebrities who turn up playing themselves.

Quirky and totally original, this one's a winner all the way!

SummaryI was bowled over!
Content
I picked up this movie because it's one of the few non "R" movies made recently. It sat on my coffee table for several days as I wondered what it would be like. Finally I decided to play it, thinking that at worst I could always turn it off. But it was WONDERFUL! Kathy Bates is fantastic, wistful, sincere and I was drawn into her life. Rupert Everett plays his role with that quirky manner that won me over in An Ideal Husband and My Best Friend's Wedding. I'd never seen Ms. Eaton before but although I winced at her language a bit (yeah, I'm old fashioned) I thought she was terrific too. And, speaking of the word "terrific", seeing Julie Andrews send herself up made me laugh out loud. All in all, I enjoyed the movie thoroughly!
