SummaryBest movie of the Decade!
Content
Ten years later, this is still my all-time favorite movie. The landscapes are breathtaking and the characters are so real I have a difficult time seeing the actors in other roles. I wept uncontrollably the first 20 times I watched the final scenes, which tells me what fantastic characterization was accomplished. I loved every minute of the entire movie and I never tire of watching it. I watched it almost daily for over a year. It only left me wanting more! So many movies today are marred by overacting that's so obvious I turn to my spouse and grimace. There's no need to be embarrassed for the actors in this movie. Perfect!! I need the DVD version!

SummaryFLAWLESS!
Content
This is a film about four women of class struggling to hold their lives together after losing their source of income. They are suddenly subject to the cruel realities of their society. The two older Dashwood sisters struggle to find a balance between love and security, fantasy and harsh reality.
The emotions of each character are felt strongly, acted flawlessly, and thickly enjoyable. The language of the era is brought to life beautifully, and a clear sense of the societal expectations is easily made obvious. Some period films have the ability to leave you confused about their characters' motivations, but not this one. It is understandable, yet intricate. (As every great story should be).
Every single aspect of this film is flawless. From the costumes, to the acting, to the sets, to the book to film adaptation, and on and on and on, it's all perfect. And I make absolutely no hesitation in giving such unusually high praise. This is one of the most cherished films in my collection. I suggest that you give it a chance even if you don't like Jane Austen stories. It simply commands the highest respect of any film I've seen.

SummaryExcellent Movie
Content
Emma Thompson wrote the screenplay for and stars in this excellent adaptation of Jane Austen's novel "Sense and Sensibility". Thompson is wonderful as Elinor Dashwood, in love with Edward Ferrars. Hugh Grant is good as Edward, in love with Elinor, but unsure if she returns his love, since she is so restrained in her actions, she doesn't show her feelings. Kate Winslet shines as Marianne, who is passionate about life and doesn't believe in hiding her emotions. Alan Rickman, in a nice guy role for a refreshing change, is excellent as Colonel Brandon, who is in love with Marianne. Greg Wise, Harriet Walter, and Hugh Laurie are also excellent in supporting roles.

"Pride and Prejudice" has long been my favorite Jane Austen novel. But this movie brought "Sense and Sensibility" to life so well that I now want to reread that novel and live in Jane Austen's world yet again.
