 | I just saw this film on TV. I would not have bothered reviewing it, were it not for 1 reviewer's comments that anyone who didn't like the movie just didn't understand France and the French. Nonsense. I'm American and lived in France for 6 years. I'm pleased to have many French friends, and my soon-to-be wife is French. I didn't like this movie. I didn't really see anything particularly engaging or noteworthy about this film. Given the cast of characters, I was expecting significantly more. |

 | This is seriously one of the most boring films I've ever seen. I had to walk out of it half-way through. Good thing I didn't pay to see it. Otherwise I'd really be pissed. |

 | There was about a zillion different storylines in this movie, and all seemed to be concentrated around Isabel (Kate Hudson). Naomi Watts hardly seemed to get a look in! I'm still not sure what to think about this movie after watching it. It's not as bad as the 1 or 2 star reviews given on here. What was with the flying bag right at the end? It made no sense, except it was stolen from the flying feather from Forrest Gump.
Kate & Naomi made terrific sisters in this, although Naomi was shoved to the side most of the time for Kate's character to have all kinds of affairs. The French are badly portrayed in this - in other words, if you're French, don't watch it - as close minded, rude, arrogant, and ignorant of people's feelings. The two Americans (as they're always called in the movie) let their boyfriends/husbands walk all over them, even when it's obvious they're giving them the same gifts they've given past girlfriends. The French language is absolutely gorgeous to listen, although I did have to switch on the subtitles, so I could understood what everyone was saying! It's not all in French, but there's a fair bit of it in French.
Pretty much, it's like a good episode of Jerry Springer. Naomi's character has a young child, and another on the way, and who's husband has left her for another Russian woman. The Russian's woman's husband thinks they should get together, to get back at them. Naomi's character does the only thing possible, and sees a razor blade in a rather different light. Isabel is having affairs with two different men, parading about like she's the only one getting any, and with no worry about contraception it seems. And none of the men are in the least bit cute! And to top it off, there's a murder thrown in.
There's no extras on this, and no trailer for this movie either. However, there is a few trailers before the movie starts, including In America & Stuck On You. I can't remember the others, that's how good they were.
This movie doesn't know what it's meant to be, and there's too many subplots, and different characters never really given a proper introduction to distinguish between them. I was quite frankly lost. This film isn't that terrific, although watchable, if you can get your head round it. |

 | I absolutely loved this movie. I grew up in France, and since i've not returned for a few years, I was nostalgic for France while watching the movie. Yes, there is a big fat tremendous difference in cultures between American women and French women (one just has to read Mireille Guiliano's book "French Women Don't Get Fat" for a basic review of the hows and whys). I really enjoyed this movie, but I can also see why it didnt go over so well in America. One has to really spend quality time in France to understand; i'm talking about a lot of time, not just a quick two-week escapade. |
