Kade Phillips is perhaps best recognized for playing Heath Ledger's
character, Ennis, at age 9 on the massively successful film
“Brokeback Mountain” (2005), by Ang Lee. He is also
memorable as Young Cade on the TV film “Carolina Moon”
(2007).

Career:
Kade Phillips made his television acting debut as Charlie at 9 in the
Canadian TV movie “The Incredible Mrs. Ritchie” (2004),
opposite Gena Rowlands, Kevin Zegers and David Schofield. Directed and
written by Paul Johansson, the drama won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding
Children/Youth/Family Special, Outstanding Performer in a
Children/Youth/Family Special and Outstanding Writing in a
Children/Youth/Family Special and also received several nominations,
including a Gemini nomination for Best TV Movie or Dramatic
Mini-Series.
Later in that same year, Phillips portrayed Eric Carter in the Martha
Coolidge directed TV film “The Twelve Days of Christmas
Eve,” which aired on the USA Network on December 7, 2004. The
film starred Steven Weber, Mark Krysko and Chad Willett. He was cast as
Tim Williams in the made for TV movie comedy “Karroll's
Christmas” (2004), opposite Tom Everett Scott, Wallace Shawn and
Verne Troyer.
Phillips's big break arrived when he landed the role of Young Ennis
(age 9) on the highly acclaimed film “Brokeback Mountain”
(2005), directed by Ang Lee and scripted by Larry McMurtry and Diana
Ossana. An adaptation of the 1997 short story of the same name by Annie
Proulx, the drama was nominated for eight Academy Awards, the most
nominations at the 78th Academy Awards, and won three in the categories
of Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Original Score. The
film also was a huge commercial success, and with total earnings of
over $178 million, it becomes the 11th highest-grossing romance films
of all time.
Still in 2005, Phillips was featured as Crying Boy in the Canadian
biopic “Waking Up Wally: The Walter Gretzky Story,”
starring Tom McCamus, Victoria Snow and Tara Spencer-Nairn. The film
was directed by Dean Bennett.
In 2007, Phillips was cast as the young embodiment of Oliver Hudson's
character, Cade Lavelle, on the Lifetime TV movie “Carolina
Moon,” for director Stephen Tolkin. The same year, he
starred as Aaron Newtone in the Canadian TV film “The
Newtones,” opposite Lizz Carter and Brian Habicht as the Newton
spouse.
In 2008, Phillips appeared as Young Jack in an episode of the hit
Canadian family/drama series “Heartland” called
“Nothing Endures.”
