SummaryA very funny movie
Content
Barely escaping from his botched burglary of a fancy house, Gus (played by Denis Leary) quickly finds a place to hideout from the police. Kidnapping the Chasseurs (Judy Davis & Kevin Spacey) at gunpoint, he starts making plans. But, this is no quiet haven for Gus, the Chasseurs are on the brink of divorce and are at each other's throats, and Gus quickly finds himself playing referee. Can Gus find away to escape the police dragnet and get cleanly away? Or, will the Chasseurs drive him totally insane! [Color, released in 1994, with a running time of 1:33.]

Overall, I found this a very funny movie. Judy Davis and Kevin Spacey bounce off each other hilariously, and I loved seeing Glynis Johns again (she still has it!). Now, while there is no sex or violence in this movie, it earned an R rating due to language. Indeed, it sometimes seems like the F-word appears as every fifth word in the dialogue!

But, that said, I did find this a funny and highly entertaining movie. If you want to see a movie with a lot of good acting, and tons of caustic wit, then this is the movie for you.

SummaryThe Ref
Content
The Ref stars Denis Leary, Judy Davis, and Kevin Spacey. To Tell you the truth, it is one of the darkest comedies I've seen in a while. It was incredibly well acted and directed and the screenplay was incredible. Also, the cemistry between Davis and Spacey was to die for. Denis Leary is so funny and very scary.

SummaryGreat holiday family movie! just kidding
Content
Denis Leary is by far one of the funniest comedians and actors in america. He is a great actor, and he was so hot in the ref, and his humor is unique and contagious. We all can relate to unpleasant holiday get togethers with the fam, and the mother in this movie, the grandma, is JUST LIKE my grandmother who i disowned and they act the same way and say the same rude and haneous things even at the dinner tables and during the holidays. AND my grandma also has money and uses it against everyone as a threat. So I and am sure many others can relate to this movie which happens to also be a comedy. Because we all know that guss is just another typical thief with no wife or kids, and obviously does have a heart and morals and he has to step in and referree this fighting family constantly while he hides from the cops and waits for his partner to get a getaway car, or in this case ends up being a boat. Kevin Spacey is another one of my favorite actors and he's also great in the ref. He plays the father who was cheated on by his wife with a devilery man. So it's pretty much non stop laughs and denis leary is hilarious and hot and a big turn on (for me) and if you like denis leary, check out JUDGMENT NIGHT, and his stand up comedy NO CURE FOR CANCER, which is also funny as hell, but judgement night is a thriller and learry plays the villain, and the cast and acting is great also and the cast includes emilio estevez.

SummaryThis is a very funny movie with a Christmas Eve setting
Content
If you liked the Ransom of Red Chief, you'll probably find this movie funny. This movie is similar in theme (the tables are turned on the kidnapper), although filled with some very funny one-liners (my favorite is a line about the need for a mute switch). Dennis Leary is a Christmas Eve burglar in wealthy "New Baybrook" Connecticut, who sets off a boobie trap, alerting the police (who are totally inexperienced at dealing with serious crimes). They set up a roadblock so burglar Leary can't get out of town, so he kidnaps the wife of a fighting couple (Kevin Spacey and Judy Davis), who are driving home from a visit with their marriage counselor. He makes them take him home, although they are expecting Spacey's truly awful MIL and other relatives (including Christine Baranski) for dinner. Their headed-down-the-wrong-track son is due home from the last-resort military academy he's attending. But no wonder the son is so troubled -- his parents never stop bickering. Burglar Leary ends up being a kind of marriage counselor to this rather affluent but deeply dysfunctional family.

This is definitely a Christmas movie, but if you want cute little elves and jolly old Santa Claus, this isn't the movie for you. It's definitely an adult movie, and the language is probably not appropriate for delicate ears or those sensitive to bad language or some sexual comments.

SummaryThe Ref: Vista Series DVD Petition
Content
If you want to take part in a petition to release 'The Ref' on Vista Series DVD, with special features such as a commentaries, featurettes, trailers, tv spots, biographies, outtakes, and the director's cut of the film including deleted scenes and the alternate ending (Gus surrenders and is arrested to prove to Jesse that a life of crime leads you nowhere but jail) which Ted Demme regretted having cut out, sign this petition to help lose this bare-bones dvd, and make a new collector's edition. Shame this couldn't have been thought of and/or been released in time for its 10th anniversary. Still, this would make a great DVD, so help out in this petition to Touchstone Home Entertainment to make 'The Ref: Vista Series DVD'!
