For his acting, he took home a Screen Actors Guild Award, which was shared with other cast members, and a Saturn and two Teen Choice nominations. Referring to his character, he stated, “I get the script and I'm like, ‘Oh no, he's even worse, oh no.’ You want him to be better, right? I want him to be redeemed and it's just not the nature of the character.” He added, “He cons women and preys on them and he's very good at it. But on the island, he's fighting with his own humanity. He's faced with himself and doesn't like what he sees.” Holloway is 6' 1½” and named one of People magazine's “50 Most Beautiful People in the World” in 2005. In January 2006, he was chosen by In Touch Weekly as the “Hottest Hunk” on television. Later that same month, he ranked No. 17 in the British OK! Magazine list of “The Sexiest Guy Worldwide.” In 2007, he was chosen as the new face for Davidoff's “Cool Water” fragrance worldwide. Holloway is married to Yessica Kumala. On the morning of October 12, 2005, Holloway and his wife were robbed at gunpoint in their home in Hawaii. The gunman woke the couple in their bedroom and stole cash and credits card before driving away in Holloway's Mercedes-Benz, which was discovered abandoned a short time later. In the summer of 2006, green eyed Holloway made use of his celebrity status to support Just Yell Fire, a self defense project that helps teach teen girls techniques to defend themselves against violent crimes. Currently, Holloway divides his time between Los Angeles and Hawaii, where “Lost” is being filmed.
Childhood and Family: “We lived in a trailer and had eight dogs, two horses, cats, a cow, a chicken. My dad put the trailer up for sale because he wanted to build us a home, but the sale closed before he finished construction. So my dad said, 'Boys, we're camping!' My brothers and I loved it. Every weekend we went to chicken houses for lumber. My dad once told me he built our entire house for five grand.” Josh Holloway Born in the California in Silicon Valley on July 20, 1969, Joshua Lee Holloway moved with his family to the Blue Ridge Mountains of Georgia when he was a baby. His father was a surveyor and his mother worked as a nurse. Josh grew up in a trailer park with his sister and three brothers and attended Free Home Elementary and Cherokee High School in Canton, Georgia. He later enrolled at the University of Georgia, but dropped out after a year because of financial reasons. On October 1, 2004, Josh married his long time girlfriend, Yessica Kumala, in Kauai, Hawaii. His hobbies and interests include fishing, snow boarding, motor cross, sailing, camping, martial arts and playing guitar.
Career: After leaving college, Josh Holloway moved to New York to chase a career in modeling. His good looks soon attracted attention and he traveled North America and Europe modeling. A movie buff since the age of 3, Holloway was eager to try his hand at acting and returned to Los Angeles in an attempt to pursue the craft. In 1999, Holloway briefly appeared in an episode of the WB series “Angel.” A film assignment followed two years later when he was cast in the supporting role of Sean in the independent thriller “Cold Heart,” opposite Nastassja Kinski. He portrayed a small role in the comedy “Moving August” (2002), which starred Eddie McClintock and Sarah Wynter and teamed up with Ed Bruce and Tom Everett for Milton Brown's Western “Mi amigos.” He then appeared in an unaccredited part in “My Daughter's Tears.” However, it was Holloway's lead role as Trent Parks in the Sci-Fi Channel movie “Sabretooth” (2002) that won the model-turned-actor notice. Among his costars in the movie were David Keith, Vanessa Angel, John Rhys-Davies and Jenna Gering. Holloway took on a small role in Nolan Lebovitz' comedy “Dr. Benny” (2003) before returning to television as a guest performer in such series as “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” (2003), “Navy NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service” (2004), “The Lyon's Den” (2004) and “Good Girls Don't...” (2004). Starring opposite Naveen Andrews as Sayid Jarrah, Emilie de Ravin as Claire Littleton, Matthew Fox as Jack Shephard and Jorge Garcia as Hugo 'Hurley' Reyes, he jointly nabbed a 2006 Screen Actors Guild for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series. He also picked up a Saturn nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Television Program in 2007 and two Teen Choice nominations for TV - Choice Chemistry (2006) and Choice TV Breakout Performance - Male (2005). On his character, he said, “He’s the kind of guy I would not tolerate in the real world. I don’t have any respect for people who treat other people like that. I love playing someone I wouldn’t tolerate in real life. That’s not how I live, so it’s a release for me.” Although “Lost” has successfully launched him to celebrity status, Holloway has had little time to pursue other major roles. He did star in a dramatic film directed by Stewart Hendler called “Whisper” (2007) and branched out to the world of video games with “Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars” (2007), in which he portrayed the role of a Nod soldier named Ajay. In May 2007, he was approached by 20th Century Fox for a second time and was offered the role of Gambit in “X-Men 4.” He was the principal competitor for the same role in “X-Men: The Last Stand” (2006), but left the running because of his hectic schedule on “Lost.”
