SummaryWell, If The Shorts Fit...
Content
I know I'm probably going to get a lot of negative feedback for giving "The Dukes Of Hazzard", a remake of the popular tv show, a five star rating. But before you blast me, let me make some things clear. Am I saying this film is a cinematic masterpiece? No. Am I saying it's Oscar worthy? Absolutely not. Am I saying it's an above average summer flick that despite it's weak spots is worth seeing? By all means yes. This film is a good time killer and a good movie to see with your friends or when you're just bored and need to get out of the house.

Loosely based on the 1979-86 tv series of the same name, the movie tells the story of Bo Duke (Seann William Scott) and his brother Luke Duke (Johnny Knoxville), two good ol' boys from the south who've been in trouble with the law since they took their first steps. Raised by their Uncle Jesse (Willie Nelson), the two boys cruise around their General Lee delivering moonshine (that's bootleg liquor for all you folks who don't know southern talk) made by Jesse and their superhumanly hot Daisy (Jessica Simpson), who is also a waitress at the popular hazard restaurant The Boar's Nest, where she endures nasty come-on's from horny customers. But the girl's also got brains, getting their trouble makin' cousins out of the sourest of pickles. But when the greedy Boss Hogg (Burt Reynolds), a rich, loathsome man who owns everything worth owning in Hazzard, shuts down the beloved Hazzard family farm, forcing them to shack up with Pauline (Lynda Carter, who is essentially wasted in her role), the two Dukes boys along with their cousin will stop at nothing to get back their farm and stop Boss Hogg from strip mining Hazzard county. This takes them on a road trip cross country (okay, to Atlanta) that involves some good laughs and a lots of mindless but enjoyable action. The film ends in a predictable manner, but it's a fun ride throughout, and you are guaranteed to laugh quite a bit.

The cast for the film is well chosen. Knoxville and Scott are perfect for the troublesome Duke Boys. Knoxville (inexplicably) gets top billing, but Scott may as well have since he gets all the best lines and scores most of the laughs, much like when he played Stifler in the "American Pie" series. Lynda Carter as I said earlier is wasted (she's only in it for a few scenes), but is aging wonderfully and performed well. A lot of people complained when it was announced that Burt Reynolds would play Boss Hogg. Well I will admit that he is a little too old and too thin for the role (I personally would have casted Jack Nicholson, although an actor of his magnitude would never accept a role in a movie like this), but he does a very good job despite these two factors. Willie Nelson was a perfect choice for Uncle Jesse. I could never picture anyone else in the role but him. And then there's Daisy. Well, I felt Jessica Simpson did a great job as Daisy. Granted, it's a not a role that requires a lot of depth or even talent, but she performs vry well and is without a doubt something to look at. The supporting cast is very good as well (though Joe Don Baker, a well known southern character actor who's appeared in various movies, should've been used more). The only complaint is that the actor who portrayed Roscoe was horrible. He got the character completely wrong.

Well, this film isn't a masterpiece, but it's a good movie to just to see if you feel like going to the movies. It's a popcorn flick all the way, but a good one.

SummaryWatch the TV series instead of this movie. TV Series is better
Content
The Dukes of Hazzard movie is nothing like the television series. The only thing that is the same in this movie is the car and the main reason why I see the movie is for the car. This cast will never measure up to Denver Pyle, Sorrell Booke, Tom Wopat and John Schneider- they were the dukes of Hazzard. The stories were more believable. In fact, this movie was a remake of one of the episodes from the series. Not even Jessica Simpson could save this movie. This movie would have been better if it had followed the formula that made the series so popular. Perhaps the worst movie of 2005 would have be Deuce Bigelow: European Gigalo.

The Dukes of Hazzard might be a nice escape. But I would see Star Wars- Revenge of the Sith- the best movie of the summer.

SummaryCrazy Critics
Content
Fisrt I want to just say that these critics who have been giving this movie such a hard time must be crazy. They keep comparing it to the original tv show as if it has to be the same thing. If you want to watch the tv show, buy the dvds. I do. I've always been a fan of this show, but I dont expect a big screen adaptation to be just another episode.
This movie, while a little different, is certainly a fun way to spend a couple hours.
I was expecting this movie to be really horrible due to all the dukes fan boy reviews making it out that way.
Well, it certainly isn't a "fine" piece of cinema, like the Shawshank Redemption, or some classic like Gone With The Wind, but is sure is a fun and entertaining movie experience and I do plan to purchase it when it comes out on DVD.

SummaryRemakes make money
Content
Remakes make money and I'm sure this one will as well, it's because we all have this nostalgia thing going. Oh well.

This movie was fairly predictable, the acting was average to below average (to poor). The chase scenes might be good enough for a tv series but on screen they were a bit flat.

We went to see this thing because the kids (a group ranging from about 10 to 17) wanted to see it. Was it okay for them? I guess, there are a few off color jokes and references, but nothing they don't see on some of these edgy tv shows.

My recommendation is to skip it (or wait to rent it), however, it was slightly entertaining, enough that I didn't mind watching it because the kids wanted to see it, ya know?

Oh, Jessica really can't act that well, at least she didn't do all that great here, imo, however the teenage boys I was with didn't seem to care, so for what it's worth, I guess she played the part well...
