 | Don Juan de Marco is a marvelous story overflowing with love and passion. If you consider youself a romantic or a fan of Johnny Depp, you simply MUST see this movie.
Johnny Depp's performance as Don Juan is absolutely captivating. His deep Spanish accent will sober almost anyone...I could listen to his voice all day long. Marlon Brando, as Don Juan's psychiatrist, becomes completely entranced by Don Juan de Marco and his story of his life. Who wouldn't? Don Juan spent his life wooing women. But it isn't just his suaveness or his gorgeous face; there is an aura about him, something that makes everyone around him aware of how sensitive and sensual a man he is. As time goes on, Don Juan and his romanticism begin to have an effect on his psychiatrist, Dr. Mickler, who Don Juan believes is Don Octavio de Flores (a romantic like himself). Dr. Mickler eventually realizes that he really IS Don Octavio, and he falls in love with his wife (Faye Dunaway) all over again.
Marlon Brando and Johnny Depp are absolutely magical together on screen. This movie gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "love story." It will literally make you want to go out and fall in love. |

 | Most of us know that with a movie featuring Johnny Depp, one viewing is not enough. First time, let's admit, we just watch Mr. Depp. His presence in a scene draws the eye like none other - not only the face and voice, but the subtly of gesture make it imperative to keep an eye on him at all times. Such is the joy of Don Juan DeMarco. Depp is captivating in the title role, charming from first viewing and the film continues to improve through multiple viewing.
In Don Juan Demarco, the tone is light, absurd and fun, with the exception of two pivotal scenes where the essence of the visionary Don Juan (Depp) breaks apart to reveal the anguish of youth confronting life's pain, the anguish of loss.
Still those critical deep moments never weigh down the optimistic intent of the film. As psychiatrist Marlon Brando breathes in the ephemeral aura of his patient, Don Juan, he breathes new life into his own aging heart. Although, the theme is an old warhorse, its presentation in this film is fresh and articulate.
One feels that the Brando character, along with his lovely wife played by Faye Dunaway, who both come to care deeply for Don Juan, have embarked on a well-deserved journey of a life time as they enter the world of Don Juan - a world seen rarely and only through the eyes of true love.
Crushing good looks aside, as an actor, Depp is one of a kind. Nothing like Brando physically, but every bit his peer in the ability to cross that celluloid barrier and become real inside the head and heart of the viewer. It's a gift to be reminded of the magic of love through excellent dialogue and who better to deliver the message than Mr. Depp. Men, heads up, you should watch this film, too.

 | Ten years since this movie was released, and I JUST discovered it. I rented the VHS today, what a "find," and I'm ordering the DVD. The three main characters are likable and interesting, especially Depp (of course) and Brando. The movie has heart and humor. The script and direction are excellent. It's a fable, a story that makes viewers think about reality and fantasy, life as it appears or as we choose to see it, especially how we deal with the events in our lives and their results, real or imagined. |

 | Pay attention guys, this is what your women dream about. Johnny Depp is the man, I don't care if he is from Kentucky. A fantasy within a fantasy, and Depp is dynamite. Brando gives a very sympathetic and appealing performance as Depp's counselor "wannabe". 4 Capes |

 | Looking to spark up your relationship? Rent or buy this movie! Johnny Depp is brilliant as a young man suffering from a delusion of being Don Juan DeMarco, the world's greatest lover. Marlon Brando is his psychiatrist who slowly is infected by Depp's delusion. The film is witty, cleverly written and superbly acted by Brando, Depp, and Faye Dunaway (playing Brando's wife), with supporting performances by Rachel Ticotin and Talisa Soto. It is a chance to see one of the finest actors of our generation (Depp) try out his acting chops toe-to-toe with the greatest actor of any generation (Brando). Pay particular attention to a sequence when Brando wordlessly reacts to Depp's re-telling of his father's tragic death. It is pure magic. |
