Career:

A former horse wrangler, John Hensley became involved in theatre while studying in college and soon started an improv group called Spitting Nonsense, with whom he performed at Chicago’s famed Second City Theatre. In 1999, he left college and packed for New York where he met his future manager.

In July that year, he landed a bit part as a student who lip-syncs to kung fu talk in an episode of Comedy Central's "Strangers with Candy," followed by another guest spot in a February 2000 episode of HBO long-running crime drama "The Sopranos." Also in 2000, he snagged his first starring role, as Gabriel Byrne’s teenage son Luke in the nine-episode sitcom “Madigan Men.”

From 2001 to 2002, Hensley played the recurring (later regular) role of artifacts dealer Gabriel Bowman on TNT fantasy/action series based on the popular comic book series, "Witchblade." Meanwhile, he also co-starred with Jamie-Lynn Sigler in the horror anthology film Campfire Stories (2001), based on the comic book series of the same name.

2003 marked Hensley’s breakout year when he landed the star-making turn as Matt McNamara, Julia (played by Joely Richardson) and Sean McNamara’s (played by Dylan Walsh) troubled son-turned-successful plastic surgeon on FX Networks' medical drama "Nip/Tuck." He garnered fan base while portraying the character on the high-rated show until 2006.

During his "Nip/Tuck" years, Hensley continued working on films. He starred as a spoiled teen in Joseph Ardery's coming of age film Peoples (2004) and as a friendly drug dealer in Theo Avgerinos' drama comedy Fifty Pills (2006; alongside Kristen Bell), which premiered at that year’s Tribeca Film Festival.

In February 2007, TV audiences could catch him guest starring in an episode of CBS popular, Emmy-winning crime drama "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation." He also starred as Jess Weixler’s bad boy stepbrother in writer-director Mitchell Lichtenstein's dark comedy/horror film Teeth, premiered at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival in the independent drama category.

Hensley, who has said he would have been just as content to rangle horses on the farm if acting had not panned out, is currently filming director Masayuki Ochiai's horror film Shutter (starring Rachael Taylor), a remake of the 2004 film from Thailand.
