 | There are few films that give me that "feeling" behind my back while i watch it or finish watching it. And after just finishing this one for the first time, I can say this: Casino is without a doubt one of the most stunning and chilling gangster films I've ever seen.
The film chronicles the downfall of the gangsters. It's based off a true story and it's practically identical to one of Scorsese's previous films; GoodFellas. Therefore, it was indeed directed with a similar style. However, this doesn't in any way detract from the film's originality.
The score for this film is remarkable, especially the J.S. Bach opening. Hearing it the first time in the opening was sensational enough, but near the film's end, it got me "all teary eyed."
There's not really much else I can say. To be perfectly honest I still haven't fully understood the film, (mainly because i have ADD and am half-retarded.) Nevertheless, I felt a great need to review this film, because i enjoyed it so much.
If you're a "gangster film junkie" like me, you owe it to yourself to check this one out. Hell if you're a gangster film junkie, you've probably already seen this. But if by any chance you haven't.. its main stars are DeNiro and Pesci, you really can't go wrong right? |

| Martin Scorcese re-teams with Robert DeNiro, Joe Pesci and screenwriter Nicholas Pileggi with this inside look at the Las Vegas Casino control. And after their success with GOODFELLAS, this was a promising offering. They succeed in many ways but the story, direction and characters seem more derivative than original.
DeNiro is small time street hood Ace Rothstein who makes big time as a Casino Manager. And like in GOODFELLAS, his doomed relationship with the trip hammer Joe Pesci exhibits what is too come and his paranoia takes over. Added into the mix is Ace's doomed relationship with an expensive call girl whose only interests in life are money, drugs and money. Here, Sharon Stone practically streetwalks away with the film. Her performance as Ginger is frightening.
The storyline is a bit ill conceived as the film has three narrators, making it difficult to know who the story is about. DeNiro's Rothstein and Pesci's Nicky Santoro split most of the film but at one point, a secondary character suddenly takes over narration. Scorcese uses his interesting camera work to relay the story with great success. But, the story never is as enrolling as GOODFELLAS and will always be an also ran because of that. The DVD comes with a nice widescreen transfer and unique soundtrack.

| I'm not gonna ramble on about how i think this is a great movie...i'de just like to recommend it to those who enjoyed movies such as "Goodfellas", "TheGodfather", "Scarface", "Carlito's Way", & any other gangster type movie. This is a great flick. About a dude who runs a casino in Vegas back in the 70's...im not gonna say NE more...just pick this one up...it's F***ING CLASSIC! |

Second Disc Freezes up at Chapter 10. I am now S.O.L. according to Amazon.....
