SummaryAlmost but not yet....
Content
This is a wonderful little movie that came out when I was in the 12th grade. I remember Appelgate playing in Married.....I never liked that show, so I am glad that she "branched" out to do other things. I try not to typecast her for playing Kelly on MWC.
When I saw this movie on the big screen I fell in love with it. It helps me to decide to be a sucess in my life. Yes, some things that happend are far fetched. For example, when you are a new hire, you have to show two forms of id. One of the ids would pretty much have to show a DOB. That is for taxes and getting paid.
As far as Rose, I felt that she liked Sue Ellen so much that she was trying her hardest to tune out any neg. commets about her. Her chericter is very strong and helps Appelgate out a great deal. I would love to have a boss like Rose.
Some reviews stated that the babysitter died to soon in the movie. I dont really think the story line was to revolve around her. I feel that she was a "steeping stone" in the chericter development for the kids. I thought she was annoying and they should have found another stronger person for that role. I was glad to see her out of the picture as sson as she came into the picture.
I agree with another reviewer that the DVD is for S^%T!!!! The picture is very grainny. I watched it for the first time on my 16:9 digital T.V., and it is great need of restoration. The sound is only stero, where I have Dolby Digital sourround. I am glad that it was 16:9 ratio at least. The colors seem to run together, and the brights are not bright, nor the darks are dark either. It only looks like it was transfered to DVD form a tired out VHS tape. Pretty sad. Never the less, I dont think plans are in the works for a 15th anniversery edition. WOW this movie is coming on 15 years does not seem possible. However WB is really DVD friendly so a SE might see the light of day. I have seen other titles either on DVD or coming to DVD that WB has/will put on DVD that greatly shocked me...

"Oh hi mom."
"The Babysitter???"
"Well, she went to the yarn store."
"Yea, she is knitting like this massive quilt!"

SummaryGreat Movie!
Content
Don't Tell Mom... is a great movie. It's Home Alone to the extreme. It stars Christina Applegate(Surviving Christmas, Anchorman) and Keith Coogan(Around The World In 80 Days, 24 Hour Party People) in this delicious comedy about their babysitter dying and them having to live on thir own while the mom is away on vacation. Good for all ages!

SummaryHuh... hmm... hmmmmm....
Content
This was a movie that my sister always watched back in its hey-day. I watched along as well since I thought Christina Applegate was purty. Hey, I was a kid back then! Who didn't find her attractive? But looking at it nowadays, I never realized the outrageous clothes the women wore. Did it really reflect that era? Not that I find the clothes to be horrendous, just absolutely... stunning and flashy, I guess. A mixture of grunge and '80s fashion. Ahh, the early nineties was such a fantastic era. Nowadays, it's dull. These are the thoughts that come to mind whenever I view this movie.

The plot snypnosis are as follows and plainly simple. Five kids are being baby-sat by a sinister old lady while their mom goes away on a trip in Australia. But early into the film, the old bag croaks on them. The kids, not knowing what to do exactly, put the woman in a foot locker (it looks like one) and dump it off at the nearest morgue or mortuary. The mother left money for them, but they find that there isn't any... they soon realized that the old lady had it with her the whole time. To gain money, the two older kids, Sue Ellen (Applegate) and Kenny (Keith Coogan), flip to decide who gets a job. Sue Ellen ends up finding a job. Kenny on the other hand has to do housework and take care of the kids... but he's a lazy bum that only "tokes it" with his other stoner buddies.

Sue Ellen gets a job at a clothing design company. She turns in a resume that's not necessarily true (who doesn't do this?) and gets immediately hired by the head honcho Rose Lindsey (played by the wonderful and beautiful Joanna Cassidy). Unfortunately, Sue Ellen runs into a competition with a co-worker named Carolyn (played by Jayne Brook). In truth, Carolyn wanted to get the position that Sue Ellen got and is not too pleased with that. Carolyn has a side-kick named Bruce (David Duchovny) and both strive to expose Sue Ellen for who she really is: a phony. Rose absolutely adores Sue Ellen and not once gets after her. She loves her too much. And Rose has a man of her own named Gus (John Getz), who unfortunately became attracted to Sue Ellen on first sight.

The kids strive to survive on their own for the summer. Naturally, they run into some problems along the way, but they manage to stick together. It's basically one of those kiddie fantasies where they can run amuck without any adults to ruin the fun.

It's good for teenagers and kids, but it may seem dated to today's standard. At times, you'll find it cheesy (can you believe that us guys ran around saying "ROCK AND ROLL!" when we're energetic and enthusiastic?) and the designs may be outrageous to some. Oh well, expect yourself to find today's style dated in a few years. The ending is of course so cliched, almost "Risky Business"-like, but still enjoyable.

The hidden gem found in this movie is change, most notably in the two older teenagers. They miraculously matured based from what they've done, especially the brother. He went from some grungy stoner to a well-attired young gentleman. And instead of completely neglecting school, he decides to continue his education and even plans to pursue college. Sue Ellen became more responsible by paying more attention to her family rather than just looks, boys, and partying. She also pays more attention to her job in the end, which also resulted in actually saving the jobs of many people and even the business.

So don't write it off as some crappy teen comedy. At least it has a better message than most teen movies.

SummaryGreaaat Coverup story
Content
I thought this movie was real good - however the ditching of the babysitter and the way she died is like a good pentagon reaad - like she was assasinated by a Russian spy w/ a cyanide umbrella pellet gun and then dumped like Vince (TOY) Foster at a morgue or something. Some speculate the pellet caused a fast acting breast cancer or someting. Well then big sister gets a grown up job at a CIA front Clothes Manufactuer and has one of those British agent clowns w/knifes in his back whos sister is a mole (receptionist) and well they clown around but never make it to third base and then Big sis's brother is a member of a dope club and is lazy expects her to bring home the bread. well big sis delegates all her work to lackey cia analyst well pretending she is an executive double administrative field agent doing inside work . well eventually she grows up to become an adolescent again then she and her whole family win billions since the CIA used hollywood to try to assasinate them for making the movie or trying to destroy the tape or something only the goverment could dreamland up. All of this because of president fords law that the cia could not kill americans oh well we are all rich how i lOVE this comedy
