Many people don't know this about Jennifer Beals, but she comes from an interracial family. Her father is African American and her mother is Irish American. Her first breakout role was in Flashdance (1983) where she played a character with a duel identity. She was a steelworker by day and an exotic dancer by night. She was trend setter and her torn jeans in the film would go on to become a major fashion trend in the mid-eighties. All thanks to her. Soon she sank into noteriety as people began to question her dancing ability. Without her talent she seemed to be only a mediocre actress.

She has a college degree from Yale for American English Literature. While at school she met her former husband of approximately ten years, Alexandre Rockwell. He's an independent film-maker who put her into many of his films including, In The Soup. Her family was well off before she began acting and while she was young she was neighbours with Regis Philman. She would often come over to his house as a babysitter. In recent years her career has starting to take flight.
