SummaryA not so one-sided two sided review
Content
As with Clerks X, Kevin Smith and his staff are striving to give the fans a lot of material with this upgrade. Kevin is probably the most attuned to his fan base of all directors currently working, as the huge volume of posts on his site, and his responses to those posts, attests to.
As for the supposed problem of two sided discs, I don't see it as a problem at all. Except for those who have multi-disc players, you still have to get up and change the disc, whether it be a two sided disc or a multi-disc set. As long as care is taken with the transfer, and the menus work properly, it doesn't matter how many discs are there.
Besides, this is Mallrats, a very funny little film. So just kick back and enjoy, ok?

SummaryAnother Kevin Smith Classic!
Content
Mallrats is simply a day in the life for two Jersey boys, T.S. (Jeremy London) and Brodie (Jason Lee) as they putz around all day in a suburban mall while the girls who recently dumped them scamper about. The two guys encounter strange fellows like Jay (Jason Mewes), Silent Bob (director Kevin Smith), 15-year old sex author Trish the Dish (Renee Humphrey), 3-D visionally challenged Willam (Ethan Suplee) and many others. The point of the whole day of course is to win back the hearts of their ex-girlfriends (Claire Forlani & Shannon Doherty) before scumbags like Shannon Hamilton (Ben Affleck) get to have sex with them in very uncomfortable places.

SummaryNot Gonna Be As Good As "Clerks X"
Content
Here's the new scoop: it IS a single disc. DVD Answers was correct. BUT, it's a TWO-SIDED DVD

Here's how the ONE DISC/TWO SIDED DVD lays out, thus far. Naturally, this is subject to change.

I'll mark what's new (stuff made for this edition) and what's old (from the previous DVD release).

SIDE 1

THEATRICAL CUT (OLD)
· ORIGINAL ON SET CAST INTERVIEWS (NEW)
· A BRIEF Q&A WITH KEVIN SMITH (NEW)
· THE ERECTION OF AN EPIC - THE MAKING OF MALLRATS (NEW)
· BLOOPERS (NEW)
· VIEW ASKEW'S LOOK BACK AT MALLRATS (OLD)
· FEATURE COMMENTARY (OLD)
· THEATRICAL TRAILER (OLD)
· THE GOOPS "BUILD ME UP BUTTERCUP" (OLD)

SIDE TWO 2

· KEVIN AND SCOTT'S INTRODUCTION (NEW)
· MALLRATS RE-CUT (NEW)
· MALLRATS CAST REUNION Q&A SESSION (NEW)

There are also three new Easter Eggs buried in that disc as well. Sadly, due to space constraints, we had to lose the optional angle on the old commentary track from the previous "Rats" DVD, and there's no new commentary track either (again, we ran out of space). Regardless, this new, 10th anniversary special edition is PACKED!

I think the audience would agree with me there?

We never recorded a new commentary track. Mos and I just felt like everything there was to say was said in the old commentary track, the new doc, the Q&A, and the new intro to the new cut.

Clerks X was awesome. Probably, the best DVD package I had ever seen. Everything from the original version of the film, to the theatrical version of the film, to a brand-new full length documentary about how the film was made.

Mallrats X (from what we know now) isn't going to live up to expectations. When the world of DVD learn that people do not like double-sided DVDs? And not even the cool ten-years-later-look-back Commentary that helped to make the Clerks X DVD even cooler. And if this was a three-disc, not only would they not have had the space-constraint problems, but we would get the REAL Mallrats X, not the new Mallrats DVD.

Even though I will still be definitely getting this DVD, I must admit I am terribly disappointed.

This (MUCH more that likely) wasn't Kevin and the "Mos"'s faults. I blame Universal. Universal has never solely brought an awesome DVD to people. Just a bunch of duds, and mediocre ones.

What would Michael Moore say about this?
"Shame on you, Universal. Shame on you."
