American actress Jaimie Alexander is well known for her roles as Jessi on the television series “Kyle XY” (2007-2009), from which she gained a Saturn nomination, and Sif in the superhero film “Thor” (2011) and its 2013 sequel, “Thor: The Dark World”. In 2014, she was named one of Maxim magazine's “Hot 100 Women.”


Childhood and Family:

Jaimie Alexander, nicknamed James, was born on March 12, 1984, in Greenville, South Carolina. Her family moved to Grapevine, Texas when she was four years old. She has three older brothers and one younger brother. James first entered acting in grade school, where she took theater classes as a hobby. She was eventually expelled from theater when she was in high school because she could not sing. James then turned her attention to sports and was in school's wrestling team. In a meeting with a scouting agency when she was 17, during which time she replaced a friend, James met her manager, Randy James. After graduating from Colleyville Heritage High School in Colleyville, Texas, she headed to Los Angeles to pursue acting.

Jaimie Alexander made her feature film acting debut in “Squirrel Trap” (2004), in which she was cast as Sara, the girlfriend of  the main character, David, who is a socially introverted genius played by Keith Staley. She followed it up with a guest spot in “It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia” (2005), where she portrayed a femme fatale named Tammy.  

Alexander's first break came when she landed the leading role of Hanna Thompson in the low budget award winning film “The Other Side,” which premiere at the Slamdance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, in 2006 and then was presented theatrically in limited release in 2007. She also appeared in the pilot of “Standoff” (2006) and starred in the direct to video “Rest Stop” (2006), opposite Deanna Russo and Joey Lawrence.

From December 2006 to March 2007, Alexander played the role of Caitlin Porter on the telenovela “Watch Over Me,” which is an adaptation of the Argentinian series “Resistiré.” The show starred Dayanara Torres, Todd Cahoon and Marc Menard.

Alexander experienced a big breakthrough when she joined the cast of the ABC Family science  fiction series “Kyle XY” in its second season in the role of Jessi Hollander, a troubled, show off girl with superhuman powers. The role brought her a Saturn nomination in the category of Best Supporting Actress on Television in 2008.    

In between those two shows, Alexander starred opposite Brian McNamara, Ethan Phillips and Chloe Grace Moretz on the direct to video horror film “Hallowed Ground” (2007), which was helmed by David Benullo, and played The Sister in the short film “The Face of Purgatory” (2008). She went on to make guest appearances in “CSI: Miami” (2009), “Bones” (2009) and “Ultradome” (2010) and have an uncredited part in the 2010 film “Love & Other Drugs”.

In 2011, Alexander got an additional success when she was cast as Sif, a warrior and Thor's childhood friend, on the superhero film “Thor,” directed by Kenneth Branagh. For her good performance, she was nominated for the Scream Awards in the categories of Best Supporting Actress and Breakout Performance – Female.

The same year, Alexander had a recurring role as Tunie Peyton, the sister in law of Jackie (played by Edie Falco) in Showtime's series “Nurse Jackie” and played a two episode role as Reva Kline in USA Network's “Covert Affairs.” She also was cast as Peter Facinelli's former girlfriend in “Loosies,”a romantic comedy/drama film written and produced by Facinelli, and directed by Michael Corrente, and portrayed Annie in the short film “The Birds of Anger.”

In 2013, Alexander reprised her role as Sif on “Thor: The Dark World,” the sequel to 2011's “Thor.” The film gained mixed reviews and was a financial success, having grossed over $644 million worldwide. The year also saw the actress appear in films such as “The Last Stand,” an action/crime movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Forest Whitaker and Johnny Knoxville, David Marconi's “Collision,” where she starred opposite Frank Grillo and Roschdy Zem, and “Savannah,” a family history drama movie directed, produced and written by Annette Haywood-Carter.    

Recently, in 2014, Alexander made a guest appearance in an episode of “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D” called “Yes Men,” in which she reprised her role as Lady Sif.

Alexander is set star as Gail Sweet in the pilot of the upcoming television comedy series “The Brink.” On the big screen, the 5' 9” tall beauty will appear opposite Theo James, Johnny Depp and Amber Heard on the crime movie “London Fields” (2014), directed by Mathew Cullen, and star with Wes Bentley and Cam Gigandet on the thriller flick “Broken Vows” (2014), for director Bram Coppens.
