"I've never had a good-looking boyfriend, well, in the stereotypical way. A lot of people find someone attractive that others don't. Otherwise, all our men would be taken by Claudia Schiffer!" Isla Fisher
Australian actress Isla Fisher first rose to popularity while portraying character Shannon Reed (1994-1997) on her native Australian 1988 soap opera "Home and Away." She later went to Hollywood and played roles in movies like Scooby-Doo (2002), I Heart Huckabees (2004) and teamed with Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson in her most recent film, the romantic comedy The Wedding Crashers (2005).
The actress, who is currently finishing her forthcoming film London, reportedly will replace Katie Holmes as Batman's love interest in the sequel to Batman Begins. She is also an avid writer and has published two best-selling novels, "Seduced By Fame" and "Bewitched."
Bright-eyed, redhead Fisher stands 5' 3" tall and was voted one of FHM Magazine's Sexiest Woman in 1997, 1998 and 2003. Seduced By Fame
"I basically had ears this size when I was two and I didn't grow into them, so I tended to make people laugh and muck around, which was always fun." Isla Fisher.
At nine years old, Isla Fisher appeared in several Australian TV commercials and once worked as a lottery ad extra. She landed her first acting job in the Australian TV series "Bay Cove" (1993, a.k.a. "Bay City"), playing the bit part of Vanessa Walker. A more significant role followed, as Robyn Devereaux Barsby, in the same year's series "Paradise Beach."
In 1994, Fisher got her first break when she won the role of sultry Shannon Reed in the long-lived Australian soap opera "Home and Away" (1988). She played the character from 1994 to 1997 and during her stint in the series, she also appeared in her debut movie, Bum Magnet (1997).
Fisher headed to England in 1997 and attended an acting school in Paris. After playing a role in the 1998 film Furnished Room, she starred alongside Keira Knightley in a miniseries version of Oliver Twist (1999).
Out of Depth, "Hearts and Bones" (miniseries), Attila (TV) and The Pool were Fisher's film works before she grabbed the role of Mary Jane in the teen adventure comedy Scooby-Doo (2002, starring Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prince Jr.). Meanwhile, she was also seen as a guest in "Sunburn," "Bob Martin" and "BeastMaster," as well as appeared in TV's Random Acts of Intimacy (2002) and the miniseries "Pilot Season" (2004).
Isla could be seen on the big screen in such films as the English comedy The Wannabes (2003), the artsy flick Dallas 362 (2003, with Jeff Goldblum and Selma Blair) and joined Aussie Naomi Watts in I Heart Huckabees (2004). On working with Naomi Watts, Fisher commented, "She has given me great advice, is very sweet and nice.
You know, you get rejected a million times and she'll always say, you just got to get one part, so she's great."
Fisher became Vince Vaughan's sexy, aggressive and irresponsible wedding crasher Gloria Cleary in the romantic comedy The Wedding Crashers in 2005, which also costarred Owen Wilson. On her role, she described, "Whilst playing Gloria definitely. It was an interesting character to play because she was so crazy and lacking in any kind of social etiquette. She doesn't care what anyone thinks."
Currently, Fisher is busy completing the low-budget Indie movie London. Being asked about her approaching film, Fisher said, "The film is set at a party which my character is hosting. All these people come and she's very outraged by the antics that go on: just the opposite of Gloria in Wedding Crashers." She added, "I acted in my own accent for the first time in a long time, which was quite fun." Adding to her acting talent, Fisher has tried her hand in writing.
She has published two best-selling novels, "Seduced By Fame" and "Bewitched."
