 | I would say buy this only and I mean only if you did not buy the Limited Edition Collector's edition released a couple of years ago. That was a 2 disc set that inclcuded the Original E.T. and the Updated one which I bought I would not buy this single disc set with the updated movie only. However if you do not own E.t. on Dvd buy this becuase you cannot get the collector's edition acept for buying it from a 3rd party here on Amazon but as said for us who own the collector;s edition this dvd is not worth the purchase. The 5 star rating is for E.t. is one of my favorite movies this release gets a 1 star based on the collector;s edition is much better. |

 | Well, I guess its gotta be 4/5 - the original 1982 film still brings in a 5/5 rating.
I personally think Spielberg should have either left the film alone (its old school FX work when they are kept separate) or he should have replaced ALL the original mechanical FX shots with Computer Generated shots (as the CGI shots are amazing) but when put together, you wonder at the CGI shots and cringe at the original FX shots, BUT the film still manages to make me adult cry. Its Spielberg in his peak years, buy it! |

 | I watched E.T. when i was a kid, many many times. I hadn';t seen it in YEARS, and it was on tbs i think it was, the other day and i watched it and totally forgot what a tearjerker it is. I found myself crying at the parts when ET was sick and abducted by those idiot goverment agents a**holes, that made me so mad. Maybe thats why we havent seen any aliens because maybe they saw ET and thought to hell with it lol, but anyway. I don't agree with the others who say this movie is good but not as fanastic as it's been hyped up to be. It's a woderful movie very touching with fanastic acting from such young children. And ET the alien is so adorable and funy at times, and his senisitvy and good heart and his ability to love makes you more angry when those agents with guns dont care about anything but fame, and to be the first to study an alien. It's just like that movie splash when the mermaid is thrown into a tank after being kidnapped and humiliated. Our species can be so cruel and diabolical. No wonder many species are becoming extinct it's our careless polluted world who think we're so superior and above everything else. Whatever happened to respecting living things? ET is an example of how ignorant people are, but the end definately makes up for the fact that we had to watch the bad parts when ET was in the hands of the government agents who illegally found out by the way that the alein was there by illegally listening with a scanner and invading privacy of the people. And what was up with the cops and every agent chasing the kids with guns? Geez i'm surprised they didnt shoot the kids on their bikes or run them over and kill everyone just to selfishness and cruelly get their hands on poor ET to continue the sadistic study and probably were gonna tortue him and study his anatomy by giving him an atopsy while he was alive. Anyway, dont even get me started on animal testing too. But it is a movie, but probably these government people would act the same way in real life if an alien came to earth. But besides all the chaos ET is a moving story, and there were alot of funny parts including the frog scene and when ET drank beer lol. |

 | I am with the reviewers who egg the "remake" of a classic. I saw the added scenes addition on cable and as I watched I realized I was not watching the same movie. Segments not in the original drag the movies pace down without adding much. In fact, some of these new scenes steal the mystery of the little guy and his relationship to a world which he finds himself lost in. Use the new release as a frizby. And to you tortured artists--DONT MESS WITH A CLASSIC! |
