Contact Evan Jones

Evan Jones was born in Cardiganshire in Wales. He studied medicine at St Thomas's Hospital and graduated in 1931 winning several distinguished prizes and scholarships. Following a series of junior positions he was resident medical officer at the National Heart Hospital. In 1937 he accepted the position of Physician to outpatients at St Thomas's. Evan Jones was particularly distinguished in the daily practice of medicine and less interested in the organizational and administrative side of hospital medicine. He inspired his patients with confidence with his warmth, humanity and his kindness. As well as possessing an encyclopaedic knowledge of medicine and abundant energy, Evan Jones was unique for his intuitive understanding of patients and their illnesses. His enthusiasm for medicine and receptivity to new ideas and theories continued throughout his life and he was a great friend and teacher to his colleagues, students and patients.

In 1941 Evan Jones was elected F.R.C.P. He assumed responsibility of the cardiac department at St Thomas's and then the position of senior physician. He died at the age of 62 and is fondly remembered by his colleagues and friends for his endearing personality and professionalism.

An annual Evan Jones memorial lecture takes place at King's College London.
