SummaryTruth in Propaganda
Content
It is said that this moview incorporates all of the shameless propaganda that ever went into a flyboy movie. Maybe so. So what? It is a good one and all the better for being THE WAY IT WAS.

My uncle fought on these beasts. He said they got this one right and I am inclined to believe him. I also look at him with awe when I think about it.

One of my lasting impressions is how young the aircrews were. That is much different that my military experience but that too is the way it was at that time.

The story is of a bomber crew that has to make one more mission before they get rotated back home. They were expecting a milk run and got a horror mission instead. This is the story of how they got through it and the things that happened to them on the way there and back again.

It brings to life the multiplicity of different type people who made up the crews. They came from different backgrounds and places. They get hacked off with each other. They also pull together when the time comes for them to do so.

Forget the cliches. Get this one to remind you about the Greatest Generation!

SummaryOne of the Best
Content
I love this movie so much. I was so young when my brother and I first saw this movie, but I fell in love w/ it immediately. This movie has opened my eyes to the ways of war and while I may never fight in a war I can somewhat understand it. This movie brings some of the best actors together (Matthew Modine, D B Sweeney, Sean Astin, Harry Conick JR, Billy Zane, Tate Donavan, and many more.) Every tome I watch this movie I tend to tear up, because I know that things like this happened in real life. My grandfather was real close to this situation, so it very near to my heart. This is such a great "war" movie. I recommended it to everyone.

SummarySHOULD GENERATE ADMIRATION FOR OUR MEN!
Content
Yes, the boys that served in WW II came back a lot more mature than they went in - real MEN!

They faced a living Hell in that war and the Memphis Belle should be a medium to help us younger people appreciate what they suffered for us.

I have always felt a special affinity for the fly-boys and pray for them constantly - although thankfully I wasn't aware of what my uncles went through. They were men that I admired.

How did they pull together this crew of actors to make such a moving tribute to our boys? They did an excellent job of it.
And Memphis Belle should be regarded a classis if not a part of our living history.

Let the young men of today [those stay at homes] see if they could fend any better.

DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED -- show it to the younger generation.

SummaryAlmost Realist
Content
This is the first of a line of movies depicting shear guts in the face of a real enemy. Afterwards came the likes of Platoon, Saving Private Ryan, Thin Red Line, The Windtalkers, Blackhawk Down and We Were Soldiers.

Memphis Belle gets a bit schmaltzy in the beginning, focusing on the crew and not the reality, but the scenes of flying into the fire makes you respect the guts that generation displayed.

I really thought that using the actors (all around 21 to 25) was a great touch, and made me sit back and think about what I was doing at that age (Nam) and what my dad was doing (WWII). Whew, take a bunch of amped up young men and throw them into harms way. I wonder if older, more comfortable men would have done that?

And I thought flyboys had it easy. Everyone directly engaged was slugging it out. My Uncle used to say that the papers in WWII wouldn't focus on both fronts simultaneously, if the European campaigns were having a fight, the Pacific theator was talked about briefly or that the Marines were doing okay... he said that wasn't the case, everyone was fighting hard to stay alive, not just to win the war. From the individuals perspective it was a matter of survival, not glory. The glory came later.

SummaryGreat movie!
Content
This is a movie that I was introduced to when I was young. It really made me appreciate what men like the ones in the movie did for our country. It also turned me on to WWII aviation as well as movies that go for the heart. I would recommend this movie to anyone.

See how many familiar faces you can spot.
