Batman's Childhood Friend Background: Child actress Emma Lockhart began acting at age 8, in a short film called "Eve's Dropping In" (2003). She has since played numerous small roles in television, movies, and the stage. Moviegoers may be best remembered her as the kid version to Katie Holmes' character Rachel Dawes, Batman's childhood friend, in the 2005 blockbuster superhero movie, "Batman Begins." Career: At the tender age of 8, Emma Lockhart began her acting career in a an 18-minute short film by Miguel Angel Velez and Ernesto Camara, "Eve's Dropping In" (2003), starring Mercy 'Miss Kitty' Forth in the title role. She then was spotted as a guest in a November 2004 episode of FOX's critically-acclaimed sitcom starring Frankie Muniz, "Malcolm in the Middle," playing a girl scout, and appeared in that year's TV ad for Pringles Potato Chips. Emma got busier in 2005. She acted in writer/director Jeffrey Phelps' dramatic film "Special Ed" (aka. "Saving Lives"), starring Greg Germann and Bill Cobbs, and in Christopher Nolan-directed superhero film based on the fictional DC Comics character, "Batman Begins" (portrayed by Christian Bale), in which she played the kid version to Katie Holmes' character Rachel Dawes, Batman's childhood friend. She also appeared in "Looking for Comedy in the Muslim World," a comedy starring and directed by Albert Brooks. The film, about a Jewish-American comedian sent by the United States government India and Pakistan to improve its relations with Muslim countries by finding out what makes Muslims laugh, was shown at the Dubai International Film Festival to mixed reviews. In the following years, Emma was cast in writer/director Joseph Greco's touching, low-key drama film about a Florida family dealing with a mother who has schizophrenia, "Canvas," starring Marcia Gay Harden, which premiered October 2006 at the Hamptons International Film Festival in New York.
