Ginger Snaps


“Unfortunately, after seeing 'Ginger Snaps' (2000), people don't think of me that way, they just think of me as Brigitte. I'm not like her at's just a character I played.”

Canadian actress Emily Perkins is famous for portraying Brigitte Fitzgerald in the “Ginger Snaps” trilogy (2000, 2004, 2004) and her role as Crystal Braywood in the television series “Hiccups” (2010-?). She picked up Best Actress award at the 2001 Málaga International Week of Fantastic Cinema and the 2005 Fangoria Chainsaw Award in the same category for her role in the “Ginger Snaps” movies. Perkins is the recipient of the Fangoria Horror Hall of Fame in 2005 and the YTV Achievement Award in 1990.  

Perkins is friends with Laura Harris, whom she met at drama school in Vancouver. She enjoys making sculptures and paintings. Her favorite actresses are Kathy Bates and Fairuza Balk.   


Childhood and Family:

Emily Jean Perkins was born on May 4, 1977, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. She is the middle of three children. She graduated from University of British Columbia (UBC).



Emily Perkins made her professional acting debut at age 12.  As a child, she appeared in the made for TV films “Small Sacrifices” (1989), with Farrah Fawcett and Ryan O'Neal, and “Anything to Survive” (1990), opposite Robert Conrad, William B. Davis and Tom Heaton, and the TV miniseries Stephen King's “It” (1990), with Jonathan Brandis and Seth Green. Perkins landed her first regular role in “Mom P.I.,” a Canadian television comedy/drama that ran on CBC from October 12, 1990 to March 30, 1992. Her co-stars in the series include Rosemary Dunsmore, Stuart Margolin and Shane Meier.  

Perkins went on to appear in television films like “Miracle on Interstate 880” (1993), “Woman on the Ledge” (1993), “Moment of Truth: Broken Pledges” (1994) and “In Cold Blood” (1996). He also made guest appearances in “The Odyssey” (1993) and “The X-Files” (1998). In 1996, she made her big screen debut in “Past Perfect,” an action/drama starring Eric Roberts, Laurie Holden and Nick Mancuso.     

In 1998, Perkins took a supporting role as Carmen in an episode of the Canadian TV crime/drama series “Da Vinci's Inquest” called “The Most Dangerous Time.” Later, she returned to the series to play the recurring role of prostitute Sue Lewis in a further 34 episodes from October 2001 to January 2005.   

Perkins received notice when she was cast as the main protagonist, Brigitte Fitzgerald, in the 2000 werewolf horror film “Ginger Snaps,” opposite Katharine Isabelle. The film, directed by John Fawcett, received positive reviews from critics and collected several awards and nominations. For her bright acting, Perkins won a 2001 Málaga International Week of Fantastic Cinema for Best Actress.  

Perkins portrayed Zady Spencer in the made for TV film “Christy: The Movie” (2000), starring Lauren Lee Smith, Stewart Finlay-McLennan and James Waterston, and reprised the role in two episodes of the 2001 TV miniseries “Christy, Choices of the Heart, Part II: A New Beginning.” She made guest appearances in “Mentors” (2002), “The Twilight Zone” (2002) and “Dead Like Me” (2004).  

On the big screen, the actress appeared in the films “Prozac Nation” (2001, with Christina Ricci, Jason Biggs and Anne Heche) and “Insomnia” (2002) before returning to her role as Brigitte in “Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed” (2004), the sequel to the 2004 “Ginger Snaps.” Just like its predecessor, the film got critical acclaim. Perkins took home the 2005 Fangoria's Chainsaw Award for Best Actress for her performance in the film. She again reprised  her role in the last of the trilogy, “Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning” (2004).

Perkins co-starred with Amanda Bynes, Channing Tatum, Laura Ramsey and David Cross in “She's the Man” (2006), a romantic comedy film helmed by Andy Fickman, had a small role as punk  receptionist in “Juno” (2007), a comedy/drama film directed by Jason Reitman and starring Ellen Page as the title character, and played the role of Britt Blatt, one of the evil step-sister characters, in the direct to video “Another Cinderella Story” (2008), which starred Selena Gomez and Drew Seeley. In 2009, she appeared as Becky Rosen in two episodes of “Supernatural,” a role she later reprised in one more episode in 2011. She was cast in the regular role of Crystal Braywood, a spoiled, sarcastic rich girl who strongly dislikes her job as a receptionist for Joyce, in the Canadian sitcom “Hiccups.” The series debuted on CTV on March 1, 2010. Also in 2010, Perkins co-starred in the films “Blood: A Butcher's Tale,” opposite Aaron Douglas, Jennifer Sciole and Kim Coates, and “Repeaters,” with Dustin Milligan, Amanda Crew and Richard de Klerk.

Perkins will appear alongside Brittany Allen, Freddie Stroma and Melanie Papalia in the upcoming horror/science fiction movie “The Visitors.”
