 | Back in 1988, Emilio Esteves had joined forces with Kiefer Sutherland, Charlie Sheen, Lou Diamond Phillips, Durmont Mulroney, & Casey Siemaszko to become a gang of outlaws in 1800s west in the action film, YOUNG GUNS. In 1990, just two years after YOUNG GUNS, Emilio Esteves, Kiefer Sutherland, & Lou Diamond Phillips have returned for YOUNG GUNS II: BLAZE OF GLORY.
WILLIAM H. "BILLY, THE KID" BONNEY (again played by Emilio Esteves) is back with the two remaining members of his gang: JOSIAH GORDN "DOC" SCURLOCK (again played by Kiefer Sutherland) & JOSE CHAVEZ Y CHAVEZ (again played by Lou Diamond Phillips). The three have added a new member to their dangerous game: ARKANSAS DAVE RUDABAUGH (played by Christian Slater). This time, Billy and his gang are wanted "Dead Or Alive" (as Bon Jovi had put it at best) by Sheriff Pat Garret (played by William Peterson) and the newly appointed governor of New Mexico. The action is incredible and only you are to decide if Billy and his gang are to be captured or not.
I cannot remember this sequel, as I cannot remember the film's predecessor. But I do remember that I have enjoyed this film, just as much as I only remember enjoying the first. Again, Emilio Esteves and Lou Diamond Phillips display their true talents as actors. Christina Slater does the very same. But we all know who the real STAR is: Kiefer Sutherland. This guy's acting is just so powerful, it is not even funny. Kiefer's voice alone is enough to give you the chills, very much as Vincent Price had done back in his day. This is a film not to miss. |

 | I love this movie. It is fun! Emilio Estevez as Billy dances around and clicks his heels. He is great. From my research project in high school American History sparked by the Young Guns movies, the friendship and conflict between Billy and Pat Garrett is accurately portrayed. It's sad to watch Billy's friends get picked off one by one.
You really need to see the first Young Guns to understand the intricacies of the struggle between the regulators and the law. Is Brushy Bill really Billy?? Bon Jovi's Blaze of Glory encapsulates the Young Guns story. I recommend both of the Young Guns for your collection-especially if you're interested in the Wild West. |

 | Young Guns is a movie about the origins of the legendary Billy The Kid and a handful of deputized outlaws that accompanied him in his adventures. Young Guns II is the great conclusion to Young Guns, so well realized that it outshines its predecessor.
The story begins with the hunt for outlaws promoted by the newly elected governor of New Mexico with the help of handsome government rewards for the capture (dead or alive) of known personalities. Billy The Kid is one of the hunted and Pat Garret, his longtime friend, is made Sheriff to aid in his capture. The outcome of the story is legend.
The cast's performances (Emilio Estevez, William Petersen, Diamond Lou-Phillips, Kiefer Sutherland, Christian Slater, Alan Ruck, Balthazar Getty, James Coburn and Viggo Mortensen) are wonderful and delightful to watch. The characters are very well developed and all of them shine in their own way. The score and soundtrack by Alan Silvestri and Jon Bon Jovi, along with the movie's photography, are breathtaking and work in concert to transport you to a long ago and far away place, making you feel part of the action. The sets and settings accurately depict the period; the showdowns and shot-outs abound, the surprise elements and unexpected plot twists are rewarding and the story is consistently woven into a fascinating tale based on one of the better known legends of the Old West.
To enjoy this movie even more I would recommend watching Young Guns (part I) first, a very good movie too, you'll appreciate the character's growth and the pre-established, continued story lines a lot better. This is a must watch for those who like Westerns, like to wear their cowboy hats from time to time, or simply want to enjoy a good, entertaining, action-packed movie.
