 | Ah, the '70s. What a cool time that must've been... it was before Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Hillary Duff, et cetera, were even BORN. Even though I'm only 19, I'd take bell bottoms and mood rings over South Pole and Tamagotchis any day of the week. (Of course, it's always entertaining to starve a Tamagotchi, but that's neither here nor there.)
They want the best, but do they get the best? This movie deals with four teenaged KISS fans in 1978, whose sole purpose on one fateful day is to see their beloved KISS - LIVE in Detroit. However, when Jeremiah "Jam" Bruce's (one of the four) bible-thumping mother burns the tickets (all I can say while watching the movie is geez, I'm sure glad I don't have a mother like that), the foursome decide that it's up to them to see the concert anyway, despite the numerous obstacles - hilarity ensues. Great, enjoyable, funny romp that is worth watching again and again.
Today, watching it, something hit me: this is me and my friends in high school! Jam, Hawk, Lex and Trip are me and three of my best friends (except none of us had a mother like that, thank god)! We wore the black rock shirts to school, and hated/made fun of rap (our generation's disco). We hated the [white suburban "thug"] jocks (our generation's guidos). (Please note I don't hate all jocks, just the jerks.) Because of that, to me, this movie's actually truer to (my) adolescent life than Dazed And Confused (another great movie, some of which I can relate to, but not as much as DRC). Oh yeah, and the kickin' soundtrack doesn't hurt either!
Anyway, if you love the '70s and rock 'n' roll, you can't go wrong with the one-two punch of "Detroit Rock City" and "Dazed And Confused"! It's the perfect movie to slap "You Got Served" in the face with!

 | Ah,the 1970's. A decade of heavy metal, hard rock,Led Zeppelin, and of course,KISS.Are you a KISS fan? Do you miss the 70's? Well,if the answer to both of those questions, you MUST see this film-NO exceptions. Read on for my review of this.
The time:1978.The place:Cleveland,Ohio. For a high school kid,Cleveland is a pretty fun place to grow up in,right? For Jeremiah Bruce(Sam Huntington, the kid who excorted and kind of harassed Tim Allen in the movie "Jungle 2 Jungle")the answer to that question is no. His mother happens to be one of those pathetic mothers back in the 1970's(as well as the 80's,90'sand today)who thought that KISS stood for "Knights In Satan's Service",which reults in Jeremiah(who calls himself "Jam",his band name and his "bad"name)having to hide his KISS records in his Mom's Carly Simon record cases among other dorky(example,Barry Manilow)record cases-not a decent situation for him and his friends, who have all been trying to go see KISS in concert for the last three years of their lives, but thanks to Jeremiah's mom, everything has been screwed up. One night, after his Mom puts on a record by The Carpenters to hear KISS' classic "Love Gun" record played instead of her beloved Carpenters record, several funny things happen-I won't give away all of the movie, but some of them include Jeremiah's three friends seeing/hearing a high school cheerleader urinate and have diarrhea in the girls bathroom when they are in there(a very crude and hillarious scene),Jeremiah being sent to a religous school after his Mom finds the KISS tickets in one of his friends'jacket that he accidently took, picking up a disco queen who they find walking on the side of the highway, etc. will probably find you having a great and enjoyable time while watching this film, kissing all of the rules good-bye,and of course, rock and rolling all nite and partying every day.
Special Features:The special features on this VHS include Everclear's video of "The Boys Are Back In Town" and a guitar lesson which will teach you how to play "Rock and Roll All Nite" on the guitar.
A treat for all KISS fans-I highly recommend this film.
P.S. I'm sorry I forgot to mention this already, but my stepmother was(and still is)one of the people who thinks that KISS stands for "Knights In Satan's Service". No lie. |

 | After watching this movie the first time, I could not help but agree that it is one of the best movies I have ever seen. Usually, it takes me awhile to really get into a movie. This movie however, from the very first scene to the ending concert provided non-stop laughter and enjoyment. This movie was creative in the sense that nearly every individual has been crazy about one particular band or musical group. I know that I sure have. This movie allows you to experience how much the band "Kiss" means to these four guys. They stop at nothing to make sure that they do not miss this concert of a lifetime. It was crazy watching how much they would go through just for this one night.
I also believe that the people they picked to portray the roles in this movie were very accurate. Every actor within this movie does a great job making their character come to life. This movie really makes you feel like you are in the 70's due to the way people act, dress and espicially what music they listen to. I strongly reccomned this movie to anyone. The storyline of this movie keeps you constantly asking yourself "what's going to happen next?" This movie I believe, will make anyone laugh. You are given the opportunity to follow along with these guys as they make their way to Detroit for the concert of a lifetime. One there way they break all the rules and defeat the odds. |

 | One of the best movies ever. One of my favorite's. I am a very huge KISS ARMY SOLDIER and I think this movies is one of the best. I love the intro. I think that KISS is not only for good music, it's also great for a central theme of a movie. Watch this one. It doesn't matter what type of movies you like.
