Lifeguard Cody Madison

Background:

With blue eyes and the extraordinarily aura of someone who loves the beach, American actor David Chokachi gained prominence as lifeguard Cody Madison on the worldwide hit show “Baywatch” (1995-1999). He starred as Det. Jake McCartey in the television series “Witchblade” from 2001 to 2002, and more recently, as Justin Healy in the drama serial “Beyond the Break” (2006).

After having his first taste in front of the film camera in The Unspeakable (1996, TV), Chokachi has starred in several movies such as Bad to the Bone (1997, TV), 12 Bucks (1998), Mary Higgins Clark’s ‘A Crime of Passion’ (2003, TV), Crimson Force (2005, TV) and Mystery Woman: Oh Baby (2006, TV). He will play Jeff in the forthcoming film The Dreamless (2006).

Off screen, the 5-feet-11-inch performer was named one of People magazine’s “50 Most Beautiful People in the World” in 1997. He has been married to Susan Brubaker since 2004. His love life has also been linked to actress Brooke Langton, whom he dated from 1997 until 1998.

In Plymouth, Massachusetts, David Al-Chokhachy was born on January 16, 1968. His father, Al Chokachi, is Turkish, and his mother, Carolyn, is Finnish. He has a sister named Heather. In 2004, David married Susan Brubaker.

Like most actors, young David was interested in films while growing up. Besides, he discovered a passion for various sports. He was athletic and stood out at water sports. Also, he received varsity letters in lacrosse, football and wrestling. He graduated from Tabor Academy, a prestigious boarding prep school in Marion, Massachusetts in 1986, and received a scholarship to Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, from which he graduated with a degree in political science in 1990.

Career:

With a degree in Political Science on his pocket, Bates College graduate David Chokachi got his start working as an assistant to Massachusetts representative Gerry Studds for a year before relocating back to Boston to model and take drama classes. After commuting between Boston and New York to do commercials for two years, he headed to Los Angeles to find more works.

Following a string of TV commercials, Chokachi eventually got his acting break when he landed a regular on the internationally-syndicated hit series “Baywatch” at the start of 1995 season. As Cody Madison, an Olympic buoyant also working as a lifeguard, he soon won the heart of the show’s fans and became an instant star. He left the series in 1999 to pursue other projects.

While costarring on the show, Chokachi also costarred as Darren Metlick, a psychotic murderer, in the television film The Unspeakable (1996), teamed up with Kristy Swanson, Jeremy London and Christine Tucci in the crime made-for-TV film Bad to the Bone (1997) and appeared as Evil Lovejoy in drama feature12 Bucks (1998). Besides, he made guest appearance in several TV shows, including “Suddenly Susan,” “Sabrina, the Teenage Witch” (both 1997), and “V.I.P” (1999). Also in 1999, he portrayed Eddie Meredith in A Crime of Passion, a crime/drama telepic helmed by Bill L. Norton.

After leaving “Baywatch,” Chokachi starred as Det. Jake McCartey in the television series “Witchblade,” a gig he held from 2001 to 2002, and had a featured role in director Robert Lee King’s Psycho Beach Party (2000), a spoof of 1960’s Beach Party/Gidget surfing movies mixed with slasher horror films. In 2003, he found himself acting with Cynthia Gibb and Gordon Currie in the television film Mary Higgins Clark’s ‘A Crime of Passion’ and guest starred in an episode of “She Spies,” appearing as Cable Guy / Gordon Braddock.

Chokachi took part in the science fiction TV film Crimson Force (2005), along side Tony Amendola and Taylor Mac Bowyer, before returning to series TV as Justin Healy in the drama series “Beyond the Break” (2006), which starred Suzie Pollard. He was then cast as Dave in television film Mystery Woman: Oh Baby (2006) for director David S. Cass Sr.

The 38-year-old actor will join director-writer Brian Metcalf for the upcoming adventure film The Dreamless (2006). Among his costars in the movie are Andrea Andes, Mo Anouti, Kirk Baltz and Lena Baran.
