 | God, this movie's a classic. Once again Micheal Keaton is a great Batman, and Catwoman, played by Michelle Pheffier, is a gorgeous and fiesty woman, especially in costume. Penguin, of course, is a villain who is everything a villain should be, and he has a funny way of fighting and talking, too. Max Schrek I think is okay, but he was real weak when the big test came. Anyway, this is the best of the good Batman sequels, and I think all who like comic book related movies should see it whenever they can. And as many times as they want. |

| With the same director, leading actor, and screen-writer, I would think that Batman Returns would be just as bad as the original. But I was wrong. It is much worse. Keaton continues his terrible portrayal of Batman, and is now joined by equally bad roles played by Danny DeVito and Christopher Walken.
The plot of this movie is that the Penguin was abandoned at birth by his parents because of his, well penguin-like apparence. By black-mailing Christopher Walken, a powerful businessman, the Penguin wins the favor of Gotham and even runs for mayor all the while playing on the credulenc of the citizens. Oh yeah, Catwomen also seeks revenge on Walken's character for pushing her out of a window. Unfortunately, Catwoman does not fit well into this already convoluted plot and makes even less sense why she forms a brief alliance with The Penguin to try to get rid of Batman. And it is disguisting hearding about The Penguin's preverted proclivities regarding Catwoman. There is probably too much plot in this movie and not enough action; and the plot is acriminous.
This movie really only needed one good villian, but instead it got three sub-par ones. DeVito looks morticious with pale skin and stringy hair, and he walks around in soiled clothes and eats raw fish. Catwomen is little more than a vengence seeker and a lackluster love interest for Batman. Walken is the real puppet master in this movie, but he really isn't that interesting. Why create a normal villian for Batman when there are already two of this arch-rivials in the movie? The reason is poor script-writting.
The only good thing about this movie is that it signaled the end of the Burton/Keaton Batman era. The next two movies were not that great, but at least Batman Forever had likeable villians and more action. Batman and Robin was worse, but it still wasn't as bad as the first two Batman movies. The new Batman Begins is the best one yet. Hopefully, it will redem the series and I even think that future movies that re-wrote storylines involving the Joker and The Penguin would be better than Batman and Batman Returns. |

| Batman Returns is a very dark and entertaining film. Danny Devito and Michael Keaton make good adversaries as the penguin and Batman. This movie takes the darkness that was present in the first movie and turns it on turbo with even the music being so dark. It was a great shame that this was to be the last great batman movie until Begins but it doesnt dissappoint. The movie opens with a disturbing sequence of the penguins parents dumping their child into the sewer. Then the credits roll with the entertaining Elman score and the movie picks up 33 years later. And it is an action packed ride, with a major attack by penguins circus, and a nice catwoman sequence as she destroys christopher walkens store, battles between batman and catwoman create sexual tension between the two baddies and it is wierd to see them out of their costumes becoming a couple while they are trying to kill each other without knowing. And a destructive sequence with the batmobile is a highlight but the major highlight is the finale as the penguin releases his penguins with missiles on their back and sends them to destroy gotham city. All of this makes Batman Returns feel like a good sequel because it is bigger and better than the original. I recommend this movie to anyone who wants to see a good action flick. |

| Batman Returns is a very dark Batman movie from director Tim Burton. It has solid music, beautiful visuals, a great cast, a good plot and great action. After rewatching this movie, I realized how mad I was that Tim Burton didn't continue directing the Batman movies. Unfortunately Jerry Bruckheimer then took over and made a really average movie while using up 2 of the best Batman vilains: Two-Face and the Riddler. That is a shame because I know that Burton would have made a much better movie. Tim Burton is such a fantastic director and he incorporates fantasy in all of his movies. From Mars Attacks to Big Fish to the Nightmare before Christmas to Batman Returns, he always uses the unreal, surrealism and fantasy.
This movie does greatly incorporate fantasy and the result is a fantastic movie.
The plot is about a unique and grotesque man named Penguin (Danny DeVito) who collaborates with the powerful Max Schreck (Christopher Walken) with the hopes of ridding Gotham of its energy supply. Batman (Michael Keaton) has to deal with them and Penguin's henchmen but also has to deal with the mysterious Catwoman (Michelle Pfeiffer) who is trully in love with Batman.
Batman gets framed and much more in this very dark movie. The visuals are fantastic and the Penguin is beautifully brought to life thanks to the makeup and of course the marvelous Danny DeVito. Michael Keaton once again is great as Batman and is in my opinion as good as Christian Bale. Christopher Walken is fantastic as is the wonderful Michelle Pfeiffer (Meow!!!).
The movie has very good action scenes and very good character development. Salena Cayle (Michelle Pfeiffer) goes from a lonely secretary to a victim of an atrocity and a lunatic. She then becomes Catwoman, and believe me, her costume is brilliantly made. You might pity the Penguin at times but when he turns crazy, you sort of do but not really. You disslike Max Schreck a lot and love Batman thanks to his outfit and Michael Keaton. The batmobile is great and there is one awesome chase. I don't want to give away any of the action or other things so that you can discover this marvelous masterpiece on your own. This one along with the original Batman are two movies that deserve to be in everyone's collection. But if you have to chose between the two, Batman Returns is a superior film.

Batman Begins (when it comes out on DVD), Returns, and of course the original all deserve to be in your collection. But, stay FAR AWAY from Batman Forever and Batman and Robin, as they dissgrace and are an affront to Batman. |

A good Batman movie. Actually a very good Batman movie. Michael Keaton does an excellent job in potraying the dark Batman that everybody likes to see not this comical Batman from the 60s TV show. Great storyline and cast. Danny DeVito did a great job acting as "The Penguin". He pulled it off very nicely. And Christopher Walken did a great job playing an scheming businseman. I kind of like Michael Gough as Alfred better then Caine in "Batman Begins". He's just great as Alfred and does a great job douing. Yes, I know Alfred was bald and had black hair in the comics but hey if he can pull it off, that's good enough. Michelle Pfeiffer also does a very good acting job in potraying a darker "Catwoman". That I've never really seen before on TV. Very good movie. |
