Career:
A native of New Yorker, Clem Burke received a degree of prominence when he
joined the punk rock group Blondie as a percussionist. Hired by Debbie Harry and
Chris Stein when they were first starting the band, he stayed with the band
throughout the first era of their career and was active in reforming them in the
late ‘90s.
When Blondie was dispersed, during the 1980s and 1990s, Burke kept himself busy
by playing drums for a number of artists, like Bob Dylan, Pete Townshend, Joan
Jett, the legendary Rock ‘n’ Roll wildman Iggy Pop, as well as for Eurythmics
and Dramarama. Moreover, he became the regular drummer of The Romantics, a gig
he held from 1990 until 2004.
However, Burke did not score another victory until he played drum for Rock and
Roll band The Ramones, following the abrupt exodus of Richie Ramone. Under the
name Elvis Ramone, he proved an accomplished drummer with his two gigs in 1987,
in Providence, Rhode Island and in Trenton, New Jersey. He rejoined C.J Ramone,
Tommy Ramone and Daniel Rey for “Ramones Beat Down On Cancer” concert in October
2004.
During 2004-2005, Burke toured with the daughter of Frank Sinatra,
singer-actress Nancy Sinatra.
