 | These thoughts belong to a Peter Sellers fan, however a fan who enjoys Seller's full potential, as revealed by Kubrick in Dr.Strangelove. Two movies stand out in the Pink Panther series: Pink Panther Strikes Again & The Return: Sellers is completely at ease in his role in these two - creative and wonderfully oblivious. The films are well paced, intelligent and light hearted. When compared with these two the rest of the series seems a bit heavy handed and contrived in its sometimes strenuous attempts at humor. |

 | This is simply the best Pink Panther movie in existence. The quality of this DVD is terrible but you can forget it when you see Clouseau in his first scene with the blind man in front of the bank. All the scenes with Cato are funnier compare to the other panther movies. And to end this review I will say that in this movie you can see why Chief Inspector Dreyfus loss his mind. Excellent choice if you want to have many laughs. |

 | Peter Sellers and Blake Edwards finally regrouped after ten years to revive the Pink Panther series and what a way to get it started again! I think this is easily the best of the "comeback" PP movies, perhaps even the best PP overall.
Return of the Pink Panther is the first film that Sellers started to ham up the French accent (which I think is bit over-the-top to be honest) but he's funny, very funny. Herbet Lom is great as well.
My two favorites scenes in "Return" are 1) Clouseau bumbling around in Sir Charles villa disguised as a phone repairman and 2) Clouseau sneaking around Lady Littons hotel room. Each of these scenes is simply an endless sight gag that delivers some wonderful laughs. The humor feels so effortless and natural and it just goes to show you what a genius Peter Sellers (and Blake Edwards) was.
It's a shame that Return of the Pink Panther wasn't inlcuded in the PP DVD set. If this had been included (instead of Trail of the Pink Panther) it would have made the whole collection just perfect.

 | Peter Sellers. Such a brilliant comedian. Such a strange unhappy man. He died far too young and left too few extremely enjoyable movies. His Pink Panther movies are very nearly his best. They perfectly capture his comic timing & sense of the absurd. Return is a must have if you already own the Pink Panther boxed set. laugh out loud funny. |

 | Although I love all of the Pink Panther movies, I think this one is the best. It has tremendous flow and even more quirkiness than the others. Blake Edwards and Peter Sellers are exceptional and flawless as far as their work in the entire series, but this is the most brilliant, seamless, and polished of all of the films. I believe it is truly the crown jewel. I think Christopher Plummer's performance has something to do with this; he is wonderful.
I heard a theory at one time that the Inspector Clouseau character was actually the brilliant villain "behind the scenes" of the crimes in these films; but we were never actually told that for sure, we were just left wondering if it might be so. His bumblings and antics would certainly be the perfect cover for a mastermind of criminal evil. This film in particular makes me believe that theory is true - that Inspector Clouseau is really behind everything. His comic actions in this one are so hilarious, with such perfect timing, I truly believe he is a master manipulator and could be an evil genius. Of course the ensemble of characters for this film was perfectly cast, with superb performances, to add to that of the main character. Though I am only expressing my opinion, I really think this is the best Pink Panther movie of the entire series. I laughed harder during this one than in watching the others, and never left the couch. Great job and highly recommended. |
