 | This movie was my first exposure to "My Favorite Martian". Originally, I wasn't overly impressed. Though I have always found Chris Lloyd funny, the inuendo used here (especially by Zoot) degrades rather then builds up the fun, for the most part. "Give her the finger." Tim tells Martin (refering to his levitation ability; but the other implication is clear).
Now, I appreciate it a little more but I'd ditch the talking suit. He does nothing for the plot (except a vital 15 second bit).
I have only recently purchased Season 1 of Ray's original My Favorite Martian Series and I have to say that I prefer it over this 80% To be fair, Chris is heart-warming in his own right. But Ray was really the one who caught my attention..."I've been tryin' to hike a ride home for 30 years!" He exclaims. The poor guy. His other comments leave me wonderin' is he playing his '60's character? |

 | Usually with a remake you either loose some of the original zing or regardless of how good it is just not the same (nostalgia factor). Well this time you are in for a treat. The original was improved on and it is a positive exaggeration of the TV program. I am not sure that a talking suit really adds to the movie. However it does not distract.
All the original characters are in the movie and some added characters to round it off. I appreciated the method used buy Coleye (Wallace Shawn) to test for alien residue. By the way if his first name was Ernest, he could be "E. Coleye." Jeff Daniels made a believable Tim O'Hara. And it was a nice touch to put the late Ray Walston (the original Martian) in this picture as the investigator.
This film is a laugh a minute and so realistic. They must have hired Dave Barry for their science advisor. Sharon 'Mae' West the real script supervisor also was script supervisor for "Twin Peaks" (1990) If you do not see this movie to the very end you will miss the whole point.

 | In fact, far from it! I don't know why I didn't enjoy this when I saw it for the first time. It's actually a funny, enjoyable movie--clever and amusing, with great acting and special effects/animation. Being unfamiliar with the original series, I can only go by this movie, which I now heartily recommend. It's a lighthearted comedy. Any fault to be found with it--perhaps not the most defined plotline?--would be ascribed to the writers, and no others. As far as live action Disney goes, this is one of the better ones. |

 | "My favorite martian" was released theatrically in 1999. The critics hated it and so did everyone else that saw it. After a brief theatrical run it was released on video and then quickly frogotten, never to see any future or special edition DVD. And with reason. It's a terrible film. Badly acted and everyone is terribly miscast. |

 | I remember I went to see this in theatres when it first came out. As I was walking into the theatres I saw a large billboard on the wall advertising this film. Scralled across it was the word "Poop" in large white letters. And I agree. This movie is poop. |
