SummaryPerfect for Aspiring Engineers
Content
Our family rented this movie not knowing what to expect...it was suggested to us by the teenage video store clerk. Our 8 year-old son was captivated by Homer Hickham's journey. He had us buy the autobiography(Rocket Boys) and we read it every night. He is determined to be an engineer.
This movie and Homer's real life are a wonderful inspiration to all the unlikely achievers in the world.

SummaryA Perfect Time To Go And Clean My Room
Content
Watching "October Sky" was an absolute, complete waste of my time. Even though the title makes it sound great, it is the most overrated movie I have ever seen. I didn't like it, and I don't want to meet most people who's biggest ambition is to watch a movie about 3 kids setting off rockets halfway through the film.

SummaryTurning dreams into reality that were initially inspired by a teacher who believed in her students
Content
Our nuclear family of four including two hyperactive boys have now seen this movie three times. Our children age 11 and 9 are completing the book and we are reading it a second time. Both are terrific in their own ways. This true story emphasizes the power of dreams coupled with inspiration and the support of teachers, family, friends and community. It exemplifies that sometimes it does take a town to raise a child, and in this case, a rocket scientist. All kids who have dreams regardless of where they come from (coal towns, inner cities, etc.) should be so blessed. It is sad that more family-oriented movies of this caliper are not more readily available. MJK, Charlottesville, VA

SummaryThe Power of Dreams
Content
There wasn't anything new about the story: Four boys, defiantly fighting against a life that seemed almost like a certainty, aspire for and succeeded in realizing a dream that was deemed so unachievable by almost everyone around them.

The biggest flaw of the movie is that the plot is too predictable. Also, I wish the movie could be a little longer so it would have more time to cover how the boys learned to master the knowledge and skills to send the rocket into the sky so the whole thing wouldn't have looked like just short of a miracle.

But in the end, none of the academic concerns matters because the movie has such a powerful and inspirational story that I would forget that this is the 1000th life-affirming movie that I have seen. I knew it's gonna be a happy ending, but I still couldn't help getting a little emotional at the end. That's the power of dreams, at least for some of us who still believe in them.
