Backus, a professional baseball player before pursuing an acting career, first met Academy Award-winning actress Mira Sorvino (born on September 28, 1967), who is fourteen years older, in August 2003 at a friend's charades party. Within a month, they they were engaged and were eventually married on June 11, 2004 in a private civil ceremony at a Santa Barbara, California courthouse. They later held a hilltop ceremony in Capri, Italy. Backus and Sorvino have two children, a daughter named Mattea Angel (born on November 3, 2004) and a son named Johnny Christopher King (born on May 29, 2006). His father-in-law is character actor Paul Sorvino (born on April 13, 1939).
Career: Shortly after marrying Academy Award- and Golden Globe-winning actress Mira Sorvino in 2004, Chris Backus quit playing baseball and began pursuing an acting career. He first appeared on television playing a guest role in a February 2004 episode of NBC's popular, Emmy Award-winning sitcom "Will & Grace." He followed it up with another guest spot in a March 2005 episode of Fox's hit teen drama series "The O.C." In 2006, the newcomer made his film debut in the drama/comedy "All In," which was directed by Nick Vallelonga and stars Michelle Lombardo, Dominique Swain, Michael Madsen, Louis Gossett Jr., and Colleen Porch. IN the following year, he made his second film with "Redline" (2007), an action film helmed by Andy Cheng that stars an ensemble cast of Tim Matheson, Nathan Phillips, Nadia Bjorlin, Eddie Griffin, and Angus Macfadyen. Backus is currently on set and will soon complete his upcoming film, "3 Days Gone," an action/mystery/thriller by Scott McCullough in which he will take his first lead role, as a man who was buried alive for 3 days and finds out that two top crime bosses and the police are after him. Michelle Stafford, Jennifer Sciole, Cherise Leana Bangs, and Sera Bastian will also appear in the film that will be released straight to the video. In early 2008, it was reported that Backus wife Mira Sorvino is planning to make a baseball movie in which Backus will star.
