SummaryGreat actors=great film right?
Content
There is a simple equation in Hollywood. Great actors= great film right? In the case of this horrendous take on the alien movies, it combines things from every alien plot you can think of and blends it with a not-so-original storyline and an all-star cast (which at the time probably didn't seem to shabby). The movie takes you through a long, boring, kiddie coaster ride, where around every turn, there is something that you have seen a million times. Not impressive at all. THe movie ends, and you realize that you just wasted your last 10 bucks. The movie fails to please as a sci-fi thriller, and gives extra-terrestrials a bad name!

SummaryNo depth but fun for kibitzing
Content
An astronaut has some sort of weird experience in space. He comes back acting funny. Does any one notice? Not until he really goes off the deep end. How will it all end?

Just because this is one-dimensional and predictable does not mean you can not still say "stay in the car." And you don't think having twins is spooky? Rosemary's Baby never grew up to be a pilot. Yeah, and such common names like Spencer Armacost; what ever happened to Igor or Jeffery Dhalmer? They put in quiet space so you have time to think about what happened (or did not happen) and you call it dull. Do you really think that they would intentionally make a bad movie?

SummaryDifferent, riveting at times, but still missing something...
Content
The Astronauts wife brings us great actors and a decent storyline but fails to provide a punch that other sci-fi's do. Where is the feel of impending danger? Where is the exploring of what the unknown is, and what it is up to? It's okay, but I suggest you check out other Sci-Fi's like Pitch Black or Mission to Mars before renting this.

Spencer Armacost (Johnny Depp) is an astronaut on a routine mission in space when something goes horribly wrong and it looks as if he's doomed. However, Spencer is rescued at the last moment and returns to earth a hero. He soon announces that he's retiring from space exploration to spend more time with his wife Jillian (Charlize Theron).

Jillian has suffered from depression in the past and would like to start a family, so she's initially thrilled with Spencer's decision. Jillian soon finds herself pregnant, but she starts to notice something odd about her husband, as if the man who returned isn't quite the same person who went away. As her pregnancy advances, Jillian's anxieties increase, but has something really happened to Spencer, or have Jillian's old demons merely resurfaced?

SummaryCould have been so much better!
Content
The Astronaut's Wife was bit of a disappointment, considering the make up of the cast: Johnny Depp and Charlize Theron among others! An astronaut returns to earth after spending some time in orbit and after experiencing a mysterious two-minute blackout. Things get a bit more complicated when he begins showing that he is a different man than the one that went into space...
There are some obvious elements of the X-Files that can be seen throughout the film.
The plot is good, but the movie is very SLOW to the point that it becomes uninteresting even when it shouldn't.
Both Johnny Depp and Charlize Theron, as well as the rest of the cast, do a good job in trying to cover up for the mediocrity that the writers and director have shown.
The potential for a good movie was there if only the writers/director had the ability to... write and direct! A shame really...
In a nutshell, it's just an ok movie, and that's about it; it lacks that extra something to put it over the top. No masterpiece here. 2½ Stars

SummaryA smart sci/fi movie
Content
I normally don't like sci/fi but this one was an exception. First Charlize Theron is just gorgeous to watch. Johnny Dep, though usually a very good actor, was miscast as an evil replication of her husband. The character of Jillian was smart and resourcefull. She was the fiber in this tale that made it suspenceful, thoughtful, and enjoyable. The fact that she worked her way out of a situation supposedly created by aliens, was both commendable and believable. She's a great actress. Other reviews here cite "Rosemary's Baby", don't accept that. Not even close.
