Background: American actress Charlie Ray is perhaps best known for playing Rosemary Telesco on the film “Little Manhattan” (2005). She has also acted on television and stage plays. Apart from acting, Ray has been performing dance since she was a child. Charlotte Ray Rosenberg Childhood and Family: Charlotte Ray Rosenberg, who would later be known as Charlie Ray, was born on March 8, 1992, in New York City, New York. She has an older brother named Jackson Waite, a filmmaker who lives in California. Since at age 3, she has been studying jazz and tap dancing at Broadway Dance Center and Peridance, hip hop at Kelly Peter Dance and ballet at Joffrey Ballet. She also has sang in Sweet n' Low, an a cappella group at The Dalton School. She was voted class president in 5th grade. Charlie developed a love for directing and choreographing, and starting making movies and music videos as a child. Charlie now studies theater at Northwestern University. Company Town Career: At age 10, Charlie Ray was asked to join the Kelly Peter Dance hip hop dance crew and performed at the Agricultural Fair. She went on to choreograph and perform musical numbers from “Chicago” at the Chilmark Community Center in the following summer, and then was cast as Dorothy in a production of “The Wizard of Oz.” Ray's big break on acting arrived when she auditioned and won the role of Rosemary Telesco on “Little Manhattan,” opposite Josh Hutcherson as Gabriel “Gabe” Burton. Directed and written by husband and wife Mark Levin and Jennifer Flackett, the romance/comedy film earned generally positive reviews from critics, and has grossed over $1 million worldwide. Ray appeared in the September 29, 2005 episode of “The Tony Danza Show” along with Lara Spencer and Donald Trump. In 2006, Ray made her television film debut in “Company Town,” opposite Sherry Stringfield, Michael Michele and Will Beinbrink. There she played the role of Amanda Shaunessy. The same year, she also appeared as Belinda Holt in the episode “Underbelly” of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.” In 2008, Ray appeared on stage as Sally Bowles in a controversial school production of the musical “Cabaret.” In September 2011, Ray was featured in the ensemble of the classic Steven Schwartz-written musical, “Pippin,” in historic Shanley Pavilion.
