Career:

Camille Japy made her feature film debut as Demoiselle d'Honneur de Marguerite in a French comedy, “Gallant Ladies” (1990), opposite Richard Bohringer, Isabella Rossellini and Marianne Basler.  The same year, she starred opposite Emmanuelle Devos in the short film “Embrasse-moi,” by Noémie Lvovsky. Japy continued to appear in such films as Guy Pinon's “La femme à abattre” (1993, starred Aurélien Recoing, Marie Bunel and Patrick Lizana), “Café au lait” (1993), “When the Cat's Away” (1996), “Le cri de la soie” (1996), “Anna Oz” (1996), “(G)rève party” (1998), “L'onzième commandement” (1998), “Lila Lili” (1999) and “Nos vies heureuses” (1999). During this period, she also worked in a number of short films, like “Dadou” (1994), “Suivez le bébé” (1995), “Il y a des journées qui mériteraient qu'on leur casse la gueule” (1997), “Beaucoup trop loin” (1998), “La part des choses” (1998), “Fleshback” (1999) and “ La mort dans l'âme” (1999), while her TV credits included guest spots in “Julie Lescaut” (1994), “Deux justiciers dans la ville” (1996) and “Maigret” (1997) as well as appearances in the made for TV films “Demi père” (1997), “La vie en face” (1997), “Maximum vital” (1997) and “ Divorce sans merci” (1998).

Entering the new millennium, Japy landed the role of Claire (Marty's mother) on the Denis Bardiau directed drama film “Marty's World” (“Le monde de Marty,” 2000), which won Special Mention for Free to Fly Section at the Giffoni Film Festival and a Golden Deer for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2002 Changchun Film Festival, and appeared with Charles Berling, André Dussollier and Ludovic Schoendoerffer in the crime/thriller movie “Crime Scenes” (“Scènes de crimes,” 2000), directed by Frédéric Schoendoerffer. She also appeared in the short “Little Death” and in an episode of “Crimes en série” (both 2000). Japy added her film credits with roles on “Les fantômes de Louba” (2001), “Electroménager” (2001), “ J'ai tué Clémence Acéra” (2001), “X2000: The Collected Shorts of Francois Ozon” (2001, video), “Higher Still” (2002), which was nominated for Tiger Award at the Rotterdam International Film Festival and  2002 Golden Iris at the 2003 Brussels European Film Festival, and “Sachez chasser” (2002, short). She maintained her TV presence by appearing in episodes of television series “Combats de femme” (2001) and “Vertiges” (2002) and in the TV film “L'impasse du cachalot.”      

In 2003, Japy was cast in the main role of Rosalie Plaisir on “All Girls Are Crazy” (2003), opposite Barbara Schulz and Antoine Duléry. The comedy film, directed by Pascale Pouzadoux, won Best Score and was nominated for Grand Prix at the Paris Film Festival. The same year, she co-starred in Eric Veniard's “A Great Little Business,” opposite Clovis Cornillac, Denis Podalydès and Axelle Laffont, and with Fabrice Luchini and Vincent Lindon in Philippe Le Guay's “The Cost of Living.” Japy next appeared in the Antony Cordier drama “Cold Showers” (2005), which was nominated for a César for Best First Film, and played the role of Nadine in Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt's “Odette Toulemonde” (2006), starring Catherine Frot, Albert Dupontel and Jacques Weber. In 2006, she played the regular role of Odile in the French TV series “Fête de famille,” opposite Jean-Luc Bideau, Danièle Lebrun and Antoine Duléry. In the following year, she had roles on the films “Très bien, merci,” “La vie d'artiste” and “Déjà vu” (short) and the TV miniseries “Le réveillon des bonnes,” as Odile Dubreuil.

Japy was featured as Isabelle in “Taken” (2008),a French thriller movie produced by Luc Besson, and starring Liam Neeson, Maggie Grace and Famke Janssen. Despite earning mixed reviews, the film was has generated cult following since its release, and was a huge commercial success. She starred as Rosine in Séverine Cornamusaz's draam film, “Animal Heart” (2009), opposite Olivier Rabourdin and Antonio Buíl. The film won several awards like FIPRESCI Prize, Prize of the Ecumenical Jury and Special Mention at the 2009 Mannheim-Heidelberg International Film festival and Swiss Film Prize for Best Actor and Best Film.

2011 saw Japy play roles on TV miniseries “Le repaire de la vouivre” (as Delphine Pratt), TV movie “Une nouvelle vie” and films “La croisière” and “Mon arbre.” She continued to guest star in television series “La loi selon Bartoli” (2011), “Deux flics sur les docks” (2011) and “Profilage” (2012).     

Japy has completed filming a starring role on the short film “A Way” (2012), directed and co-written by Julien Drach. She will appear with Fabrice Luchini, Lambert Wilson and Maya Sansa in the upcoming comedy film “Alceste à bicyclette,” which is set to be released in the French theaters on January 16, 2013.
