Model of Blurred Lines
British-born American model and actress Emily Ratajkowski came to
prominence after her controversial performance in the music video
of “Blurred Lines” (2013) by Robin Thicke, T.I., and
Pharrell. On the acting front, she had a recurring role as Tasha on the
television series “iCarly” (2009-2010) and is set to appear
in the forthcoming David Fincher movie “Gone Girl” (2014),
opposite Ben Affleck.
Childhood and Family:
Emily O'Hara Ratajkowski was born on June 7, 1991, in London, England,
UK, to a Polish painter and an English professor and writer. She was
raised in Encinitas, California, but spent much of her childhood in
Bantry, Ireland and Majorca, Spain. She attended San Dieguito Academy
in San Diego, CA and then took fine arts major at University of
California, Los Angeles. She left UCLA after only one year to
concentrate on modeling.
Emily Ratajkowski started modeling when she was 14 years old and was
signed by Ford Models. She managed to finish high school and went to
college for a year before deciding to pursue modeling career full time.
Emily worked for Nordstrom and Forever 21 but she did not get a
reputation as a fashion model until after shooting several campaigns
and editorials with photographer Tony Duran.
Emily went on to make more fashion editorials and appeared nude on the
cover of Treats! Magazine. Her face also decorated the cover of GQ
Turkey, during which time she worked with noted photographer Tony
Kelly. She also appeared in a Carl's Jr. commercial, with Playboy
Playmate Sara Jean Underwood.
Emily has tried her hands in acting. In 2004, she appeared as a young
girl in the short film “Andrew's Alteration,” directed by
Sidney Franklin. A year later, she appeared in the Robert Lane drama
film “A Year and a Day,” which starred Edoardo Ballerini,
Fairuza Balk, and Rachel Binder. Emily had a two episode role as Tasha
in the Nickelodeon series “iCarly” (2009-2010).
In 2013, Emily appeared in two music videos: Robin Thicke, T.I., and
Pharrell's “Blurred Lines” and Maroon 5's “Love
Somebody.” It was her controversial performance in “Blurred
Lines,” which featured her dancing topless, that launched the
sexy model to prominence. The explicit version of the video was banned
by YouTube for violating its Community Guidelines because of its
sexually explicit nature but restored it in July 2013.
Emily will play a small role as Andie Hardy in the upcoming film
adaptation of Gillian Flynn's novel, “Gone Girl,” which is
set to be released on October 3, 2014. The film is directed by David
Fincher and will star Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike and Neil Patrick
