Camp Rock Girl
Debuting onscreen in 2004 as Angela on the PBS children's television show “Barney & Friends,” teen actress Demi Lovato was shot to stardom in 2008 while starring alongside the Jonas Brothers in the Disney Channel original movie “Camp Rock,” portraying aspiring young musician Mitchie Torres. She also costarred as Charlotte Adams on the Disney Channel series "As the Bell Rings" (2007) and now plays the title character on the Disney Channel original comedy series "Sonny With a Chance" (2009). She has also appeared in "Prison Break," "Just Jordan," and "Jonas Brothers: Living the Dream."
The young actress will soon be seen in the upcoming Disney Channel original movie "Princess Protection Program," in which she portrays the title role, opposite best friend Selena Gomez. She will reprise her role in the upcoming “Camp Rock” sequel, "Camp Rock 2."
“No, I just see myself as Demi. Miley is amazing and has built a hugely successful career, so I respect that. It's just that, again, we're two totally different artists and there's room for everyone to be themselves in this business. I'm just trying to be Demi right now.” Demi Lovato (on if she sees herself as the next Miley Cyrus)
Like fellow Disney star Miley Cyrus, Lovato is also a singer and songwriter and released her debut album, “Don't Forget,” on September 23, 2008, through Hollywood Records. The album debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200 and spun off the singles "Get Back," "La La Land," and "Don't Forget."
“I'm really excited about these songs. I feel like I've really grown as a songwriter with my last few songs and I'm anxious to see what the fans think of them.” Demi Lovato (on her CD)
This brown haired, brown eyed petite performer with a huge smile ranked #40 in AIM's "100 Celebs Under 25.” She also dated actor Cody Linley of the TV series “Hannah Montana.”
Childhood and Family:
In Dallas, Texas, Demetria Devonne Lovato, nicknamed “Demi,” was born on August 20, 1992, to Hispanic, Irish and Italian parents Patrick Lovato and Diana Lovato. Her mother was a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader during the 1983-84 season and once a country recording artist.
Demi has an older sister named Dallas Lovato. Following her parents' divorce, her father moved to New Mexico in 1994. A year later, her mother married Eddie DeLaGarza and they gave Demi a younger sister named Madison DeLaGarza.
Demi, who has studied piano, voice, guitar, songwriting, and hip hop dancing, attended school in the Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District, where she sang in the choir at Cross Timbers Middle School for three years. She has since been home schooled.
“I was asked to leave public school. I was kind of bullied. Everyone signed a petition that said, 'We all hate Demi Lovato.'” Demi Lovato
Demi is best friends with her “Barney” costar Selena Gomez and Jennifer Stone. She has a YouTube show with Gomez called the "Demi and Selena show." Demi, who once dated Cody Linley (born November 20, 1989; Jake Ryan in the television series "Hannah Montana"), has a purity ring.
Demi currently lives in California and is learning French.
Sonny With a Chance
Performing since the age of 5, Demi Lovato played a string of musical theater roles, most notably leads in “The Wizard of Oz,” “Sleeping Beauty,” and “There's Always Tomorrow.” She also competed and won various talent competitions and pageants in her hometown in Texas and performed at a Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving Day Halftime Show.
The aspiring actress then auditioned for a recurring role on the PBS children's television show “Barney & Friends” and was cast as Angela, opposite her best friend Selena Gomez. She was then spotted as a guest in a September 2006 episode of FOX’s dramatic series starring Dominic Purcell and Wentworth Miller, "Prison Break," and in a November 2007 episode of Nickelodeon's teen sitcom starring Lil' JJ, "Just Jordan." During this time, Lovato also costarred as Charlotte Adams, Danny's (played by Tony Oller) love interest and the main female character in the first season of the teen sitcom "As the Bell Rings," a Disney Channel show based on the Disney Channel Italy series "Quelli dell'intervallo."
2008 saw Lovato star with the Jonas Brothers in the Disney Channel Original Movie, "Camp Rock," playing Mitchie Torres, an aspiring young musician who hopes to become a professional singer. On what she can relate to in “Camp Rock,” Demi explained, “The theme of the movie is to be yourself and not worry about being popular. That's what I had to worry about in middle school. I was always worried about being popular. Wow, if I had a chance to do it over again, I'd so rather be a nerd than be popular. It's so much less stressful and you can be yourself.”
The following year, Lovato began starring as Allison "Sonny" Munroe, the nice, caring teenage girl who becomes the new cast member of a live comedy show called "So Random!," on the Disney Channel original comedy series, "Sonny With a Chance." The series debuted on February 8, 2009, in the United States and premiered with two back-to-back episodes, with the first episode drawing in 4.1 million viewers and the second 4.0 million viewers.
Meanwhile, Lovato, who made a small appearance on the reality television series “Jonas Brothers: Living the Dream” (2008), was also featured in “Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience” (2009), a concert film presented in Disney Digital 3-D.
Lovato will soon star in the upcoming Disney Channel original movies "Princess Protection Program," in which she portrays the title role opposite best friend Selena Gomez, and "Camp Rock 2," where she will reprise her role of Mitchie Torres and be reunited with The Jonas Brothers.
A skilled pianist and guitar player, Lovato is also a solo music artist and released her debut album, “Don't Forget,” on September 23, 2008, through Hollywood Records. The album debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200, selling over 89,000 copies in the first week. It spawned the singles "Get Back" (#43 U.S. Billboard Hot 100), "La La Land" (#52 U.S. Billboard Hot 100), and "Don't Forget" (#46 U.S. Billboard Hot 100).
About her music on the album, Lovato explained, "I'm more of a writer whose stuff wouldn't make it on a Disney album. It's too dark. My mom's like, 'Oh my gosh, go to therapy.' So I came to the Jonas Brothers and I was like, 'Ummmm, I need help writing catchy stuff just because, well, my target audience isn't [into] metal music."
During the summer of 2008, Lovato performed as the Jonas Brothers' opening act for their “Burning Up Tour.”
When asked about her appearance on the Jonas Brothers' “Burning Up Tour,” she revealed, “Fans can expect a rocking show. Like, seriously, my music is all gonna be pretty rock. The boys joked about it being a girl, Jonas Brother, and they really stepped up their sound too, so I know that they're gonna put on a good show. I'm nervous, but I'm so excited. I think all the practicing in the mirror is gonna pay off.”
