 | I normally like Bruce Willis, but he's hot on the cover of this movie. Despite not being too keen on watching the movie, it was funny, and packed with one-liners. It also has a very young Danielle Harris, also known for getting killed off in Urban Legend. Personally I can't tell the difference between the Wayan brothers.
There's nothing special about this movie. Bruce Willis plays a cynical wise-ass 'private detective', who smokes, drinks, and has a daughter and a wife who don't really like him. There's a young rookie, who's an ex-basketball player. A very unrecognisable Halle Berry doesn't do much for the film, and ends up getting shot.
The film has dated surprisingly well, considering it was released in 1991, although Brucie has aged considerably! Danielle Harris is surprisingly good, having to throw insults & swear lots at Brucie's character, and later in the movie, gets a gun to her head.
There's not a great deal of extras on this, as you can imagine, there's five other trailers though.
This is a good movie, although it would be nice if Brucie cracked a smile once in a while. I'm still not keen on the Bruce/Damon Wayans pairing. It just didn't seem right. |

 | Willis and Wayons are:
hilarious
touching
very funny
sarcastic
straightforward
very great actor portrayals
the movie ignites like a bomb from start to finish
you never get the feeling of lostness from the whole movie
it shocks you with how violent life can be when your daugher is at risk and other things. not to say she was killed. but when someone's family is threatened. extreme action is taken
I will watch this movie every chance I get
now that I have it on dvd
when I saw the trailer I was amazed and wanted to see how the movie ended
I love this
it really is a powerful action comedy flick
i laughed and was shocked too at times
Wayons and Willis make a brilliant team
they should make more movies together in 2005 and the years to come
if they so do want to collab again
if you like Willis: then see Die Hard movies, and the Whole Nine and Ten yards movies, and other ones
if you like Wayons: then see Mo Money, Blankman, and other movies he is in
if you like Berry: see Swordfish, X Men, X Men 2: United, Bulworth, and every movie she has been in
this movie is amazing
it will remain a timeless comic and full of action flick for years down the road. I can see myself watching this when I'm 90 and still enjoying it. see this movie. it's a rock em sock em deal that doesn't lose its reputation
I'm so glad I bought this on dvd
it's a worthwhile movie to my collection of movies |

 | The reviews of this movie are hilarious to me. People seem to consider it the cause of all of the world's problems or something, and therefore harp on the language, violence, and sexism (which i will not deny is present). But it all seems so tame now! Since the release of Boy Scout, i have seen many, MANY more profane, more violent, more sexist films come out, mainly without the outrage expressed for this one. Reading reviews from professional critics (such as Ebert) and then reading reviews of similar movies now, you see a major fluxuation, of sorts, which is rather fascinating in its own right.
This is actually rather tame now, bafflingly. I can only say that it's not all that bad, but then, that must make me a sexist violence loving foul mouth, so i mustn't have liked it.
It is also appropriate to note that Bruce Willis is an excellent action star, and plays a disgruntled and overweight toughie in this one, very well, in his own right.
Boy, does he hate women though! At two points in this film, rapists get the bajeezis beaten out of them by the stars. This could have been a last minute cover, but it is probably where many of the accusations of sexism come from.
People who like this kind of thing will like this movie, and people who don't like action movies shouldn't watch it, should they?
I personally didn't really LIKE it, like i liked Die Hard or Lethal weapon, as appropriate comparisons, but i certainly didn't develop the immense hatred expressed in other reviews here. I wonder what they were expecting? Some movie about quaint adventures in the boy scouts, selling popcorn and escorting old women across streets? Because i don't think this movie tries to disillusion people about its nature. |

 | This film is an action classic. Willis plays a great character (on par with the main character in Bad Santa, but with a gun and a bit more hung over). Wayans is at his most enjoyable, and thought the plot is simple, it makes for a great action movie.
Willis sells the movie with great one liners, and Scott does nice job filming the action. I know a black and white detective duo is passe in films, but if you like this genre of film, The Last Boyscout will deliver. It's well worth the twelve bucks.
Despite the bashing this film takes in Amazon's official review of this film, it is very entertaining. It is a simple and stupid action flic, yes, but to say it hates women and promotes voilence and profanity in teens is a bit harsh. I suppose you could argue those things about this film, but then you must denounce the entire genre of action films. It is no better or worse than any action driven, big budget, Hollywood picture. That review would hold more water if this was a PG film; if it's rated R, it seems a bit naive to critique its violence.
This is a fun film, worthy of a watch. I haven't seen this film in years, and I just bought it. I'm eager for it to arrive in the mail and will surely watch it several times. It ain't Shakespeare, but if you're a Willis fan and you've missed this one, pick it up. |
