Mud on the Tires Background: "When I sit down with a guitar to write a song, or when going into a recording studio, the focus is really on one thing: ‘How will this song work on stage night after night?’ I think about that every time I write something and every time I record a song." Brad Paisley Grammy Award-winning contemporary country singer/songwriter Brad Paisley landed a recording contract with the label Arista Nashville in 1999 and released his debut album, "Who Needs Pictures," that same year. He has since released the albums "Part II" (2001), "Mud on the Tires" (2003), "Time Well Wasted" (2005) and "5th Gear" (2007), which spawned the #1 hit singles "He Didn't Have to Be" (1999), "We Danced" (2000), "I'm Gonna Miss Her (The Fishin' Song)" (2002), "Mud on the Tires" (2004), "When I Get Where I'm Going" (with Dolly Parton; 2005), "The World" (2006), "She's Everything" (2006), "Ticks" (2007), "Online" (2007), "Letter to Me" (2007), and "I'm Still a Guy" (2008). He is now working on his seventh album, an instrumental album titled “Play,” which will be released on September 2, 2008, and a greatest hits album. Paisley was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry on February 17, 2001. On a more personal note, the 5' 9" musician has been married to actress Kimberly Williams since 2003 and has one son.
Childhood and Family: On October 28, 1972, Brad Douglas Paisley was born in Glen Dale, West Virginia. He went to John Marshall High School, near Wheeling, and briefly attended West Liberty State College. He was later awarded a full-paid ASCAP scholarship to Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. He graduated from Belmont University in 1995 with a degree in Music Business. While in college, Paisley met Frank Rogers, a fellow student who went on to serve as his producer. He also met Kelley Lovelace, who became his songwriting partner. In 2000, Paisley began dating actress Kimberly Williams (born on September 14, 1971), who appeared in a video for the song "I'm Gonna Miss Her (The Fishin' Song).” The pair married on March 15, 2003, at Stauffer Chapel on the campus of Pepperdine University. They welcomed their first child, a son named William Huckleberry Paisley, on February 22, 2007. Paisley and his wife have a dog named Hollar whose name comes from the part of Nashville he was found in. Paisley and his family live in Franklin, Tennessee, and own another home in Malibu.
Career: At the age of 8, Brad Paisley received his first guitar from his maternal grandfather, Warren Jarvis, who also taught him how to play. He wrote his first song at age 12 and was an opening act for country singers The Judds, Ricky Skaggs, and George Jones at the Capital Music Hall in Wheeling, West Virginia, by age 13. After graduating from Belmont University in Nashville, which he attended through a full-paid ASCAP scholarship, Paisley scored a songwriting deal with EMI Music Publishing and helped write David Kersh's top 5 hit, "Another You.” In the late '90s, Paisley landed a recording contract with the label Arista Nashville and released the song "Who Needs Pictures" on February 22, 1999, which rose to #12 on the U.S. Country chart. His debut album, "Who Needs Pictures," hit the music stores on May 18, 1999, and has been certified platinum by the RIAA. Other singles off the album include "He Didn't Have to Be" (his first Number One), which became his first #1 single in December 1999, and "Me Neither," which rose to #18 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart in 2000. Paisley won the Country Music Association's (CMA) Horizon Award and the Academy of Country Music's Best New Male Vocalist award in 2000 and received his first Grammy Award nomination a year later for Best New Artist. On February 17, 2001, Paisley, who made his first appearance on the Grand Ole Opry, was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry. May 29, 2001, saw the release of Paisley's sophomore effort, "Part II." It spawned the singles "Two People Fell in Love," "Wrapped Around," "I'm Gonna Miss Her (The Fishin' Song)" and "I Wish You'd Stay," which respectively peaked at #4, #2, #1, and #7 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks (now Hot Country Songs) charts. The music video of "I'm Gonna Miss Her (The Fishin' Song)," which features notable guest appearances of such celebrities as Little Jimmy Dickens, Kimberly Williams, Dan Patrick, and Jerry Springer, won the CMA Music Video of the Year in 2002. "Mud on the Tires," Paisley's third album, hit the music stores on July 22, 2003. It yielded four hit singles: "Celebrity" (#3), "Little Moments" (#2), "Whiskey Lullaby" (#3), and the #1 title track.
