SummaryLess than the first but more than the second.
Content
The third installment of the Exorcist is not as good as the original but it is certainly much better than EXORCIST II. It is also more in keeping with the tenor of the original.

The story takes place about 15 years after the original. A serial killer seems to be on the loose again. The problem is that the killer was executed 15 years before. George C. Scott plays a police officer tasked with tracking down the killer and his search leads him to a mental hospital. There he finds Fr. Damien from the original locked up as a patient and the bodies continue to pile up.

This relase is much more contemplative and talktive than the first two. Most of the story comes out through conversation instead of action. This does not prevent the occasional chilling moment but it is definitely not a slasher movie.

The "orthodoxy" of this film is much more in keeping with the first and with reality as well. There is none of the animistic religion which so pervades the second. In this one, the concept of demonic possesion by proxy is examined with chilling effect.

This is a fine film even if it is not as elementally frightening as the first.

SummaryDownright SCARY! George C. Scott gives a stellar performance
Content
If you have seen the original "The Exorcist", you know how good it was, but if you have seen "The Exorcist II: The Heretic", you know how terrible it was. Well, with "The Exorcist III", you actually get what you were looking for when you went to see part II of this series. "The Exorcist III" starring George C. Scott is the "TRUE" sequel to the original and is a very good horror flick that is filled with unrelenting terror that really "GETS YOU" and holds tight with an iron fist never truly letting go even after the movie is officially over. This is the kind of terror that makes a horror movie truly scary.

Thank goodness William Peter Blatty ignored the existence of "The Exorcist II: The Heretic" or the film could not possible have been as successful and as effective as it is.existence. What we ultimately have in "The Exorcist III" is a movie which basically picks up after the original left off. Detective Bill Kinderman, played brilliantly by George C. Scott, is investigating a series of murders that begin to resemble the killings of the late Gemini killer and this mystery really begins to work at Kinderman. The killings are brutal and include severed heads and this case really hits home for Kinderman when his best friend is mysteriously and inexplicably murdered by what appears to be The Gemini Killer. Kinderman is at a total loss for words and logic goes out the window in this investigation.

Kinderman must investigate the killing of his good friend at a mental hospital where strange and mysterious things are apparently taking place including a senile old lady literally crawling on the walls and the ceiling and a mysterious nurse or nun dressed in white appearing out of no where with a huge medical scissors designed to cut through bones. Indeed, these happenings go on undetected but patients turn up in places where they could not possibly have gotten to and it becomes apparent the viewer that a supernatural evil is at work.

Ultimately, Kinderman comes up with a lead and to his horror and disbelief, an old and familiar evil has appeared once again and is at the heart of the murders and strange happenings in the hospital and elsewhere. The only thing is that the person who appears to be doing the killing is supposed to be dead, but this evil demon/spirit is moving from person to person and could be anyone including an old senile lady!! Indeed, an unspeakable evil presence is evident within the walls of this hospital and it's up to Kinderman stop it.

"The Exorcist III" is a chilling movie with real horror...the storyline is pretty good, but what really makes this movie work is its chilling and downright scary atmoshere. This movie is quite dark and very morbid and while not nearly as good or as scary as the original "The Exorcist", this movie is still a horror movie classic. "The Exorcist III" is original and bonechilling horror. It is no coincidence that the same person who did the original "The Exorcist" is also responsible for this brilliant 3rd installment. There are many absolutely terrifying scenes in this movie that are sure to make an impression on even the most experienced horror movie fan. The acting and directing are brilliant in this flick so you won't be disappointed in that area either.

The only criticisms I have for this movie are: (1) there were also scenes of dialogue that appeared to be unnecessary and a little drawn out and (2) the ending was not as effective or as good as it could have been. Still, that being said, "The Exorcist III" is a great horror movie that really scares the hell out of you and stays with you for a long time...you just don't know what to expect as the demon could use anyone to do its evil bidding. I recommend that you really stay alert and observe this very effective scary atmosphere which is always essential to any good horror movie and which appears lost in the sea of today's garbage being produced and assigned to the horror genre section. I highly recommend "The Exorcist III" as one of the better horror movies of all-time. "The Exorcist III" is a must own for any serious horror movie fan. Watch it late one night by yourself and I guarantee that you will see exactly what I mean...go check it out!!!

SummaryStylistically Brilliant
Content
This is worth it just to see George C Scott in action.
He is affable, likeable, and so much like the original Kinderman. The tight direction, cutting, and interplay between the characters work brilliantly.
I would like to see if the studio had more to do with the end product than the director, if only to satisfy my curiosity about the process.
The so called lack of action is worth the experience, because this is where we see the development of character that works so well in this film.
Whilst I like the three or so versions of the original exorcist, EXORCIST 3 repays a close watching with a great experience. Brad Dourif is great in a very ambivalent role, but one that interplays well with the kindly character of Father "Karras".

ENJOY.

SummaryI have only good things to say about this movie!
Content
So different than the first and original "The Excorsist", and yet so "in the spirit" of one of the best horror-movies ever made. Not much happens, but you will jump in you seat several times anyway -it's a quiet movie, mostly phsycological based when it gets to the scary parts (exept one scene, you will know which when you see this movie!).

It's the filming that is so impressing about this third sequel. That and the wonderful cast. You wouldn't expect much from a "number 3" of an old classic -but this is unique. It's actually hard to describe it, it's something about the atmosphere -and "the calm before the storm". I find this not a worthy review of this great movie, it would actually be easier to write a review of how fabolous the first movie works as entertaining in the horror-genre because it's so full of remembarable "events" -while the demon dominates the original, here it takes a while before the audience gets to stand "face to face" with the evil. Yet the story is based on its' morbid presence, and this is why it is so scary.

One of the best "quality" horror-movies that I have ever seen!

SummaryI Like it a Little Too Much
Content
For some reason this movie always got to me...it has little to do with the first two Excorcist Movies...but it is unique nonetheless. Stellar performance by George C. Scott--if you don't want to see this film at least see it if you're a fan of his work. You will enjoy the unique story and wonder a little more the next time you visit the nursing home.
