I first saw this movie when I was eleven and have loved it ever since; it never gets old, never ceases to make me laugh. This is probably my favorite movie of all time and since I'm sometimes a nervous person I like to joke, "I'm just like Bob!" Bill Murray's character is so endearing and hilarious that once you watch this movie, you'll never want him to leave. Not everyone has the same sense of humor, but you'll never know if you don't watch it, will you? I'd give it 10 stars.

To prominant psychiatrist Dr. Leo Marvin (Richard Dreyfuss), there is nothing more annoying and inappropriate than having new patient Bob Wiley (Bill Murray) disrupt the Marvin family's vacation. To the rest of the Marvin family, Bob is a welcome guest who brings a much needed level of fun into the household. Murray and Dreyfuss are priceless in the film although the story does eventually become formulaic and predicatble. The subplots with the misunderstood children have recently become a tired staple ever since Winona Ryder made her ghoulish appearance in BEETLEJUICE. Director Frank Oz works well with the performers allowing them to run with their talents, something he did well later on with Eddie Murphy and Steve Martin in BOWFINGER. A very early DVD release, the film is transfered well but, there are no special features included. Mindless escapist comedy that might offend obsessive compulsive people.

What about Bob is hilarious. Its about a guy named Bob (Murray), who has a very severe case of OCD who is given a new therapist. The therapist he is given is going on vaction for a little while and Bob follows him with his fish on a bus where the passengers clap when he gets off because he is so wierd even thou his intentions are good. The therapists family loves him, but the theapist just can't stand him. He does everything to get rid of him, even putting bombs on him, but nothing works. You won't be dissappointed with this movie.

I've never forgotton about WHAT ABOUT BOB. I enjoyed it when I was a kid, and i played it for my friends because they had never seen it. The people who didn't like this movie are obviously missing the creativty and genius, and thought put into this unique story. If you think about it, a patient that is so obnoxious to most pychiatrists, practically stalking his doctor and ends up buddy buddy with his family during the doctor's vacation. First of all, you must understand psychiatrists. Most do not care about people's problems, like in many comedies you see the shrink sleeping in his chair while the patient is blabbing away in the special "seat" It's their job to help you, but they mainly try to make alot of money by using their skills, but has nothing to do with caring. This case was no exception. Dr. Leo Marvin, can't stand bob from the very beginning, and i'm not sure how many of you understand the value of VACATIONS but they mean more to doctors than to anyone. They love to get away from their jobs and enjoy free time, which they barely get. And not to mention an extra comic bonus, leo marvin wrote a book and is going on good morning america when he is at his vacation house in new hampshire. It's a hilarious story with non stop laughs. It keeps getting funnier and funnier as leo marvin gets more and more nuts and ends up acting like a patient himself. I don't understand why some people didnt appreciate this movie. Bill Murray was suppose to be annoying, that is why it made it so funny because he drove his doctor insane with every word he spoke, and every bond he shared with his family. Picture a pompous arrogant, anti social, professional pychiatrist being stalked by his new patient. That is if you've never seen it. For those of us who have, you can't help but like it because richard dreyfuss's character is also very funny in what about bob. It's a little old, came out in 91 but you can't tell at all. You get sucked into it because of bill murray's character and his problems become comical. And there is non stop funny lines that are contagious like, YOU THINK HES GONE. THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT HE'S NEVER GONE!!! hehehe. And the reason why everyone likes bob and not the doctor is because the doctor sees him as a patient and not as a regular person, but his family gives him a chance, and they realize he's an open, overall harmless and nice person that is thoughtful and fun, and makes everyone laugh. So the doc feels left out as bob takes over his household practically and he is forced to try and be polite by his wife because they all get mad when he mistreats bob. Check this movie out if you've never seen it. It's great.
