 | The reviewer below is right. I saw BAD SANTA 3 times and afterwards I felt a compelling need to date unattractive strangers, set fire to an old folks home, and eat babies smothered in coleslaw. Not necessarily in that order. Since then I have checked myself into a mental institution.

Not surprisingly, the reviewer above me missed my point. I hope this movie doesn't compel anyone to break the law, but my point is that it's very troubling that anyone would find this amusing, entertaining, or acceptable as an artistic expression - the fact that so many did indicates real problems with the society.
ORIGINAL REVIEW:
In my opinion, there isn't anything funnier than a guy who had a crummy childhood, growing up into a life of crime and hedonism, swearing at little kids, staying drunk all the time, and proudly brandishing that ol' "I don't care about anything or anyone - not even me!" spirit. It's just a terrific recipe for humor. Because I always get a laugh when sick and troubling situations are used as comic fodder.
Seriously, the Cohen Brothers are clearly interested in the ethically bankrupt direction that modern entertainment is steamrolling toward. Yeah, I know... "come on, it's just a movie! It isn't meant to be taken seriously! Just have fun with it!" Because having fun watching "Santa Claus" swear at children should much higher on my list of priorities than respecting the parameters of responsible social conduct. |

| This movie stinks. I mean it really stinks. The first time I saw it, the first time I heard the advertising for this, I knew it stunk. And guess what- it really really does stink. It's not family friendly nor is it charming. It doesn't seem to know what audience it's going for.
BOOOO this is about as retarded as The Grinch or that dumb Ernest At Christmas movie (You know, that guy who always "hey Vern" sigh so lame). Super lame. |
