 | Perhaps it's because the large, colorful, high-spirited cast works as an ensemble that this is the movie non-Streisand addicts seem to like best. Certainly she's delightful in it, sparkling and kooky, and Peter Bogdanovich evens lets her sing a bit("You're The Top", behind the opening credits, features an incredible Barbra vocal). The film looks amazing on DVD widescreen and Streisand's scene-specific commentary is wonderful(personally, I like the scene-specific option much better, the actress isn't stuck having to comment over 94 minutes of screen time and can just give her freshest recollections). A wild, cartoony comedy with lots of sight-gags and big laughs. My favorite line? "I have ledge-aphobia". |

 | I remember seeing this movie in a movie theater when I was I was a little girl around seven years old, I thought this movie was so funny, especially that hilarious screwball car chase which next to the car chases in The Blue Brothers and Sugarland Express is probably one of the greatest movie car chases ever! Everyone was wonderful in this movie, Barbra Streisand, Ryan O'Neal, Madeline Kahn, Liam Dunn, Kenneth Mars, Austin Pendleton, etc. I was very happy this year when I got this DVD for Christmas and I very highly recommend getting What's Up Doc? on DVD! The movie is still as hilarious as when I first watched it when I was a child! |

 | The likeness to films such as "Bringing up Baby", a hilarious Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn romp from the 30's, has been made before but this film is really more the updated version with an entirely different script and jokes for a modern audience.
The film really only echo's the madcap pace and utter silliness of the plot of it's predacessor, and ofcourse revitalises the genre.
Because the 70's was the era of action movies it is very much the madcap comedy, "on the road" and the San Francisco car/bike/chinese dragon chase is superbly executed! (and if you haven't seen the film this scene is even crazier than I make it sound, it stands out as the climactic scene and simply must be seen even if you don't do the rest of the film!)
Streisand is zany, snappy and has acidic wit and snappy timing. O'Neal is perfect as the hapless, hopeless boffin.
Khan (god rest her sweet soul) is the her usual whacky, laugh out loud self; I find some differing subtle in her comedy ever time I re-watch some of her work and she is just brilliant in this.
A highly recommended screwball bunch of fun, the perfect curl up and have fun film. Now undoubtedly a classic, even good old Bugs get's in on the action; well the title is his catchphrase! |

 | A mix up of look alike suitcases causes some funny and tense situations in this film--see if you can keep track of them. There is one unforgettable chase scene, in which O'Neil and Streisand are getting away from would-be captors on...an ice cream cart!...and are chased by bad men in cars, through the streets of San Francisco! It's a wild ride that will cause your heart to race. Plenty of laughs, too. Good, clean fun for the family. |

 | A note on this DVD version of "What's Up Doc" :
It is enhanced for widescreen TV's,
presented in a "matted" widescreen format.
Translation - they have cut off the top & bottom
of the original film.
The witty dialogue remains; but,
it takes away from the sight gags
and that wonderful San Francisco scenery. |
