Ashley Lilley was born Ashley-Anne Lilley on January 29, 1986, in
Rothesay, Scotland, UK. Her nickname is Ash. She earned a place with
the National Youth Music Theatre at age 12. Three years later, she
attended the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts in
London. She graduated in 2004. Derek Hough was one of her college
classmate.
Letters to Juliet
Career:
After graduating from London's Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts,
Ashley Lilley landed the starring role of Lucille Frank in a production
of Jason Robert Brown's “Parade” at the Edinburgh fringe
festival in 2005. She went on to play Hope Harcourt in the UK tour of
Cole Porter's musical “Anything Goes.”
Lilley made her feature film debut in “Mamma Mia!” (2008),
a British musical/romantic comedy film adapted from the 1999 West
End/2001 Broadway musical of the same name, which is based on the songs
of successful pop group ABBA. There she portrayed Ali, the close friend
of Sophie and her bridesmaid. Directed by Phyllida Lloyd and starring
Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Amanda Seyfried, Colin Firth, Stellan
Skarsgård, Julie Walters, Dominic Cooper and Christine Baranski,
the film grossed over $609 million against a budget of $52 million,
making it the highest grossing musical film worldwide. The same year,
Lilley appeared as Venus Houston in an episode of
“M.I.High” called “Moontaker.”
In 2010, Lilley was cast in Gary Winick's drama “Letters to
Juliet” as Patricia, Charlie's cousin. The film starred Amanda
Seyfried, Chris Egan, Vanessa Redgrave, Gael García Bernal, and
Franco Nero. She also portrayed Dot in the short “Cat Eats
Dog” (2010) and appeared in an episode of “Lip
Service” (2010) as Carla.
