Background:

Actress Aonika Laurent is perhaps known to many as the wife of Guyanese-American actor Sean Patrick Thomas of the 2001 film “Save the Last Dance” and the 2000-2004 television series “The District” fame. They have two children together. Laurent has appeared in such films as “Black Jaq” (1998, TV), “High Freakquency” (1998) and the box office hit  “Fantastic Four” (2005). In 2010, she offered a memorable guest stint on Fox's “Bones.”

Aonika Laurent was born on January 15, 1971, in New Orleans, Louisiana. She married actor Sean Patrick Thomas (born December 17, 1970) on April 22, 2006 in New Orleans. Their original wedding date had been November 5, 2005, but had to be postponed because of Hurricane Katrina. The couple met at a party thrown by “Barbershop” director Tim Story.

On May 16, 2008, Aonika gave birth to her first child, daughter Lola Jolie Thomas. Her second child, son Luc Laurent, was born on June 9, 2010.

Career:

Aonika Laurent made her television acting debut as Senators assistant in “Black Jaq” (1998), a  television movie directed by Forest Whitaker and starring Nia Long as the title character.  She went on to break into the big screen with a supporting role as Monica in the indie comedy “High Freakquency” (also 1998), about  life at an urban radio station. The film was helmed by Tony Singletary and starred John Witherspoon, Marcus Chong and Paul Mooney.

Following many years hiatus, Laurent landed a small part as Bohemian girl2 in the superhero movie “Fantastic Four” (2005), based on the Marvel Comics comic of the same name. Directed by Tim Story and starring Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, Michael Chiklis and Julian McMahon, the film earned generally negative reviews from critics, but was a box office success. Released on July 8, 2005, “Fantastic Four” opened at No. 1 at the US box office with $56,061,504 in its opening weekend, and went on to make a domestic gross of $154 million. As of September 2005, the film has grossed over $330.5 worldwide.

In 2010, Laurent made a guest appearance as Ms. Hanover in an episode of the Fox Network hit series “Bones” called “The Twisted Bones in the Melted Truck.”
