SummaryNext time I wil lsee this, it will be in widescreen
Content
When I rented this film, I had to get it in full screen, because there was a few copies of it in full screen, and only one copy in widescreen, and it is was rented. Now come on that is a pretty dumb thing to have, is one widescreen copy, and a few copies at least 2 copies I believe in full screen. But soon, I hopefully will have it in my dvd in widescreen, and one of the ones that could add me getting in full screen, if somebody gives it to me as a gift, but in full screen. But I now plenty of on-line stores like this one, will have this movie in both formates, in their invetory, and very rarely do I get, if at all that I buy a movie on-line, that it is not in the screen, or wrong idems I wanted. It is 1995, and Stan Ross (Bernie Mac) is playing the Bostn Red Sox in a game, and hte Red Sox pitcher keeps saying that won't be the guy he will get his 3,000 hit off of, but he does, and then he makes a sudden/unexpected annoucememntr, that he plans to retire right away from the game of baseball. Now it is 9 years later, Stan owns a bar, and a mall, with the name Mr. 3000, and then he gets a freind to talk the Milwaukee Brewers into retiring his number, even though of un popluar he was when he played. But after the ceremony, it is disovered that Stan has only 3 hits shy of 3,000 hits, and stan makes a decison, even through he is now 47 years old, to sign back with the Brewers, even through how much the team's president (Chris Noth), wants not her from him again, agrees to re-sign, and a reporter from ESPN is picked to cover this story (Angela Bassett) who knows him well, and just asks him what if he doesn't get his 3,000 hit.

SummaryGood Save by Bernie Mac
Content
As many of my fellow reviewers have said without Bernie Mac this movie would be a bust. Some movies are just made by a good solid performance. To be honest the storyline was great. The ending just wasn't all that riveting or different. About five minutes into the movie you know the movie will end one of two ways. Then when you get about ten minutes away from the climax you know exactly what is going to happen.

Overall the movie is a quality comedy that involves baseball and the egos that we've grown to see in many of our professional sports teams. I do not agree with the editorial reviewer from the St. Paul Press who said "the best baseball movie since Bull Durham." I can think of plenty of better baseball movies that were made since 1988. This movie is definitely one to rent not buy. That is unless of course you are a huge fan of Bernie Mac.

SummaryNot All That Good.
Content
This movie wasn`t all that good because it`s about Stan Ross a retired baseball player who believe that he hit 3000 hits but he didn`t. I forgot what number of hits he really hit.

SummaryBaseball & Bernie Mac
Content
You can safely call me a fan of BERNIE MAC and CEDRIC THE ENTERTAINER, and any movie that comes out with either of them in the star line up I am usually there on the opening night to enjoy some good comedy. However, it seems that the calibre of films CEDRIC THE ENTERTAINER has starred in has been very poor indeed (e,g, The Honeymooners and Johnson's Family Vacation), whereas BERNIE has been more selective in his choice of movie roles (e.g. CHARLIE'S ANGELS). What I liked about this movie was the fact that it comfortably appeals to a both a white and black audience. The white audience will be predominately the baseball fans and the black audience Bernie Mac/ black def comedy fans. Yes the plot is predictable but the characters are rich enough to keep you entertained (appearances by Jay Leno; Roseanne's TV husband, MR BIG from SEX & THE CITY etc AND no stereotypical black characters) and so is the script (no corny one liners that you so often come across in "black" movies).

The only negative comment I have is towards Angela Bassett. She had no business playing a role like the one she did. She is such a fine actress and should have a word with her agent to find her more suitable roles for her acting range.

The DVD is also cheaper from the Target. I purchased mine for $19.99, and if you buy DVDs from Target on the day of its release or within a week thereof you can buy the DVD for $16.99.

SummarySEEN BETTER, SEEN WORSE
Content
This isnt the funniest baseball film ever made for sure. It has it moments where its cute but not really a great film. Bernie Mac Plays a very arrogant and selfish character. His only concern is himself and getting in the hall of fame. When its found out that he is actually 3 hits shy of 3000 (The nickname he has made money with over the years) He returns to try and get his hits. But time has passed him by and he isnt the youngster he once was. Along the way he sees himself in a younger superstar and he trys to recreate himself and his image. Not very realistic but a cute movie.
